also i feel like a way to keep magic from being op is to have it be pretty energy draining/dependent on energy level?
and it's small stuff, like basic levitation and things. stuff that helps you breath in basically space.

We could go for a thermodynamics approach too: magic generated heat, this needs to be dispersed somehow, or it will cause injuries. Would also explain why the entire planet didn't freeze.

note: for anyone worried about this being used as an easy fix to the 'no electricity' possibility--we don't actually currently possess the technology to harness lightning as electrical energy, from what I'm reading online. even if we do, it's far more practical to use solar panels--it produces more energy than lightning can, and it's not like I could just produce lightning indefinitely for us to have constant energy at the amount required.

 

guys, my house is biggish, right by a lake, has a barn, has a bunch of fruit trees and blueberry bushes, and has the little veggie garden that me and mom made

as an aside, because I want to get rid of my parents in the breakening, Alix and Hannah and I are on a chunk with....a splintering half of my house. so. yes.
we probably have the half with the garage.....SUCK IT, DAD, I HAVE YOUR COMPANY CAR NOW!

 

plus, there are plenty of small mammals for everyone's pets to chase.
actually, my chunk and the ones around me would have a bunch of turkeys for parts of the year, so if someone can hunt those...

question.....are we going to put up a fence or something around the chunk edge, or something.....because uh, my dog, she's not the brightest? and I can kind of see her, like, falling off the edge or walking off it, and....she can't swim....not a swimming dog.....just kind of flails wildly and doesn't paddle.....she would drown.....

 

at least half of mine is already gonna have a fence, because I don't like my neighbors so I'm stealing their fence.
and then we can keep the dog inside until the rest is done
