I started with 1 and while I am nostalgic about it is fucking awful now outside of like the glitches. Glitch wise 1 is the definite best entry. It has the appeal of like creepy pasta in a weird way, and also it's fun to think of the glitched pokemon showing up. Just a ten year old kid wandering around the land and because of some combination of seemingly innocuous things reality flips its shit and eldritchean hellbeast of a rectangle appears and screeches. Gen 2 I like a lot too because BUG CATCHING CONTEST and...More BUG CATCHING CONTEST. My favorite generation meanwhile is 3. Definitely 3. Because I got hideouts. The only way it could be more perfect would be BUG CATCHING CONTEST, hideouts, and ribbon contests all in one. 4 and 5 I didn't care for because it just felt like more pokemon to me. I do like 6 though because of the very important addition of being able to pet my pokemons. I've not finished it and I've never finished any of these games, but I do like 6 a lot.

I should do another nuzlocke really. I will never finish one but they do entertain me because they give me the sort of horrid delight that things like Digimon World 1 or Monster Rancher give. Namely I like living in the ever present dread of my monster suddenly dying like any pet while I sob furiously. Having my mocchi die in Monster Rancher 2 as a child left a very big mark on me and it is weirdly the standard by which I judge monster games "Can I through normal play lose my monster?"

Thinking it over, gen 2 was probably my least favorite overal(except the Pokemon I love so many of them holy shit). Even when it got a remake it still kinda felt lackluster. Yeah, the red gyrados is fucking awesome, and so's silver cave/gold tower, but beyond those two things and the lighthouse sorta, nothing really stands out. I remember I got bored right before I hit the elite 4 because it was just like why bother? Bug catching contests were neat, but mostly frustrating- I think they'd be a lot cooler now with all the different bug Pokemon that we have now. Ohhhhhh remember the capture game in ranger where you ran around on dotrio chasing them? The new bug contests could be like that where you have to go running after them :o that would be so cool.

4 is probably always going to be my fave because it was the first main series game I had that was -mine-. Up until then I'd been playing/watching friend's copies of FR and one of the hoenn games. Plus, it had that right about of creepiness that my tiny little circle of friends and I just fucking LOVED. Like, in D/P, we had no idea about Giratina until that area opened up, and we were shocked and amazed and excited as hell. Also, that was basically the only games we tried out cheats on, so we did the run through walls and found Darkrai's island and shaymin's spot, so when those events finally happened they were sort of extra special to us because we knew and we'd been waiting forever.

But yeah, other than those two it goes like this for me: all iterations of 1 are nostalgic for me because I grew up watching the first season of the show so Kanto was like home lol. Also glitches are fucking awesome. Gen 3 was when I really majorly got back into pokemon(and did not stop after) and the first ever Pokemon game I played. Everything was neat- Pokemon, villains, the weather effects, mt. Pyre, sky tower, the mystery of the space station, everything. Gen 5 was awesome plotwise, battle graphics and a lot of Pokemon designs were kinda disappointing. Loved the legendaries though. Gen 6 was just fun- new type, totally new region based on France, the graphicssss, and Pokemon amie and super training. All super neat. Also wonder trading holy shit.

    Omg this got long I'm sorry ;u;

I played every generation but the third (I think I was distracted by MMBN and all the JRPGs that made it onto the GBA) but it wasn't until Gen V that I actually gave a crap, because the DSi was the first time the games could be used on a proper, secure WiFi connection. For the first time I could actually trade with other human beings, and get event pokemon! (I live in Canada. In one of the more densely populated areas to be sure, but trade partners were rare to nonexistent and in store distributed pokemon never made it this far north.) Now I have 500 of the little bastards.

unrelated to people's cool pokemon stories here but I want to rant about something really quick:

I dislike the theories that go something like "Oh no your poor rival is an orphan and you kill his radicate and crush his dreams :'(" not because the dude is a jerk or anything, but because he ends up pretty well off in HGSS. Even though he had kind of a rough journey and life in general he ends up a gym leader and over all well adjusted guy. Meanwhile Red (who arguably had also seen some shit for a 10 year old) winds up a hermit on top of Mt. Silver. He is no longer the champion of Kanto, and just sits on top of a mountain with his pokemon and effectively isolates himself from the rest of the world. Even when Gold/Kris challenge him he doesn't say anything. Not that I think Red should be pitied or anything, but I'd like to see more meta about how they can be seen as representations of how people deal with stress/trauma and not "Red is such a bad ass best trainer 5ever/Boo hoo your poor rival."

I dunno, I am probably reading too much into things like that but that is part of the fun of enjoying things as an adult and that's what I find more interesting than one note ideas/characters like "total bad ass" and "perpetual victim".

Ohhhh that's a really great idea, I'd love to see more meta like that too! I think the whole thing about the rival having a bad life sort of made more sense if you hadn't played HGSS, and I saw most of those theories way before that came out.

I mistook Bugsy for a girl as a kid. Eventually this and learning that he's a dude led to young me thinking about genderqueer Bugsy. I did not know at the time that this is what my teenage self was coming up with but it was. For this Bugsy is my favorite gym leader and the one that is most important to me save Sabrina.

Also bug type gym leader. Bug is my favorite type hands down and I stubbornly do monobug runs that I never complete when not nuzlocking because.

Bugs god dammit. I will be the weedle kid who wins all the fights through sheer force of will and the power of friendship. My weedle will be the anime Pikachu of my games.

NOTE THAT MAY BE RELEVANT TO PEOPLE'S INTERESTS:

I think you can still have the eon pass even if you start a new game. o_o

I started a new game because I hadn't played OR in months and I wasn't really feeling the game to begin with let alone when I had no idea where I left off in the story. Also I didn't really care enough about latios/latias to justify keeping the save file. As soon as I got the news app for my pokenav I got an eon ticket through street pass. I don't know if I was lucky with another "passerby" on the PSS, or if the mystery gift was saved to my DS and not the save file itself. Either way it's pretty cool!

I'll admit even though I am not a huge fan of RSE/ORAS, Wally is my second favorite rival of all time (1st place is Silver because I like his character development and I thoroughly enjoy kicking his ass most of the game when he's being a dick to everyone and everything). I thought it was brilliant how they took the "learn how to catch a pokemon tutorial" and made it so you were teaching someone else instead of having it explained to you a million times no matter how long you've been playing the games. Then he becomes your rival and you get to watch him grow.

That being said I just defeated him for the 1st time in front of the Mauville gym and wow what a gut punch I wish there was an option for me to give him a hug. Even though he decided to take it in stride and get stronger he looked so crushed too! I got spoiled and saw him with a mega stone so I know he's gonna be an awesome trainer (and unless I add a poison or steel type to my team he's probably gonna crush me later in the game since the ralts line is not part fairy. RIP I have two part-fighting types and a dark type on my team ;_;)

missoyashirou Someone please give me a tiny dog to play with

I am still mad that I cannot dress up my trainer in ORAS, and really hope that's in the next main title game in the Pokemon series.

That was a marvelous money sink, and I think my trainer was very stylish and cute. Even was willing to pony up the cash for the socks and purses they had in Lumiose's clothing store, despite their dresses being ONE HUGE RIP-OFF.

Also, what's everyone's current teams? Right now, in AS, I'm working with Servine, Flaafy, Amaura (which I just found out has a second-tier evolution, nice), Charmeleon, Magikarp (... I DECIDED I REALLY WANT A GYARADOS, FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE), and Wingull. I'll probably switch out the Wingull for something else once Magikarp evolves however, even if I'm not sure what I want. Maybe a Misdrevius or a Sylveon? What would you guys suggest?

(For the final team, I'm going to have the third-tier evolution of Servine (with a mega stone), Ampharos (with a mega stone), Aurorus, Charizard (hopefully with the X-Charizard megastone if I find one in-game), swap between Gyarados and Milotic (because contests), and swap between whatever will be my last tier and Diancie (because I purchased this game for Diancie and fucking hell, I am going to use Diancie)

I brought this post over from the second Pokemon thread, partly to help revive this one and partly because I might have a better chance on asking for help on the sixth slot of my team? It's the best time for me to add a new member to the team right now, since I can swap party members fairly easy between Y and Alpha Sapphire, and I'm high enough on Y to just power-level anything to about level twenty-ish with minimum effort in the Chateau.

Hey anyone need help with the national dex? I finally found my 3DS AND remembered to post here, so there's that! I can help with most if not all legendaries, as well as several trade evo pokemon, etc. I also have a few spare mews, jirachis, and I believe an extra darkrai or two? So I think if we exchange FCs I can give those.

@missoyashirou i would go for a fighting or steel type myself- possibly an aggron? c:

  18. Lambda

    Lambda everything happens so much

@Alska *raises hand??* though it might take some work to figure out FC things, as I've never traded with that before, but I could probably figure it out. (for a Mew, maybe? since those can't be traded on the gts, which is where most of my legendaries have come from.)

or, as a request to anyone. if someone could help me with a weird trading swap, in which I can trade-evolve my Haunter and then have it back? I'd be very very thankful.

edit for: at an undetermined point in the future, for the latter. it's still a gastly right now ^^

    Pumpkageist Warning: I Shitpost

I'm just resurrecting this thread (it is now a Ghost type, the Pumpkaboo has spoken) to say that I'm so down for a Kintsugi Friend Code exchange if anyone else is, and to ask if everyone's as excited as I am about all the recent news- Pokemon Go, Zygarde's new Formes, the possibility of Pokemon Z, etc.

I totally am! I watched that Pokemon Go trailer not expecting much, but by the end I was hyped to hell. Apparently I am weak for inspirational group takedowns of legendary pokemon.

That said, Zygarde's dog forme is so dumb I actually think it's great. The perfect forme? Just dumb, imo. Gives me DBZ flashbacks.
