Meat is what most organic animals are made of, whether they're alive or dead. It hides under skin or fur or scales or what have you, but it's there.

That's up for debate, but the most likely explanation is a gift from some deity. There are at least a few thousands people who also have that. As for why he gave us that, I have no idea. He likes just doing stuff, or letting stuff happen, to see what happens. "Creative chaos", he calls it.

 

Bugs aren't meat. Bugs are bugs. People sometimes eat them but they're still not meat. Just like plants aren't meat.

 

Because most organic things die quickly if you take big parts of their body away. It also hurts very much when that happens, so most animals won't stick around if you try to take parts of them.
