I'm not sure how alike they are. You could've knocked me over with a feather when it turned out that Quentin's boyfriend was Dean and not Raj, and I'm speaking here as someone who knows Seanan IRL and has known her for over 10 years and used to be part of the machete squad, so I don't really think I can claim to "get" Raj all that well.
So does that mean Starscream is Vriska (Vriska)? Because yes. Headcanon accepted. Also holy crap would that combo (Bard and Thief of Light) explain why Starscream and Megatron were so catastrophically bad for each other and so effective at destroying things together. D:
She used to live not far from here and we both do filk and we both used to post fic on LJ and we know a lot of the same people so it was kind of inevitable that we would get to know each other after I moved out West. We first met at OVFF before I ever lived in California. I gave her Ebola* for her birthday once. She is responsible for the fact that I got into Monster High which I resisted for so long. Now she's in Seattle and I miss when I used to see her a lot more, but Seattle is very lucky to have her. (*it was a plushie)
@cryptoThelematrix Ah, see, I am embarrassingly fangirlish over Seanan McGuire. She writes and does music and has scientific/academic credentials... and it's basically everything I'd wanted and dismissed as too impractical, because you're being silly, you can't do all those things just as one person, that's not a career plan it's you trying to write a Mary-Sue self-insert character in real life. But she exists! She's real! People like that can happen, and I love her work. ...Unfortunately, I'm also completely terrified of diseases. Just seeing you mention Ebola made me need to take a couple deep breaths to calm down. So, having known her, you can probably guess the problem here. End result, I'm stuck between 'I want to be you when I grow up' and 'you give me nightmares'. So, if someday she comes back from a convention and tells you about seeing someone simultaneously shout "You're amazing and should be considered a national treasure!" and try to run away from her so frantically they wound up vaulting over a desk to get away, you can tell her that was probably me. Sorry about that.
Seanan does not actually work with ebola. She just likes talking to the CDC about it. Before she quit her day job, she worked at a non-profit devoted to helping impoverished people and underfunded schools get access to technology. So don't be afraid of her, she isn't carrying any horrible diseases. She doesn't even have her experimental tapeworm any more! You needn't fear anything coming out of Seanan except some of her conversations. Now, note that I do not make any promises about Mira Grant.
I'm bringing this thread back because it was pointed out to me that Shirou Emiya is clearly a Maid of Swords and I feel anyone who knows Fate/Stay Night needs to stop and admire that observation with me for a moment.
I... can't believe anyone remembers that post... Some Harry Potter classpects: Voldemort - Prince of Heart, because he's basically evil Dirk Harry Potter - Heir of Doom - as soon as he arrives in the wizarding world, he's given things without really having to work for them (even if he really doesn't want them) ,he has all the prophecy stuff surrounding him, and the rules of magic (I'm thinking mainly about things like priori incantatem and the elder wand here) tend to work in his favour. Dumbledore- Muse of Mind - the master classes work through people, and Dumbledores all about controlling the choices of others Snape - Knight of Void, particularly Void as hidden things Hermione - Definitely a Seer, possibly Time Ron - Mage of Space Neville - Maid of Life
I thought about that? But Pages seem to have more and wider ranging potential, while Maids excel only in a far more defined area. (He isn't as pushy as the canon Maids though, and only undergoes a physical transformation in the films (joke) so you're probably right here)
Dumbledore as Muse of Mind is brilliant. (I said Mage here accidentally and that changed the meaning completely, haha) In my understanding of classpect, Voldemort is practically textbook Prince of Time. Time is associated with death (especially the act of dying), and Princes seem to hate their aspect. So he's the Destroyer of Death, who also destroys people with death in his quest to destroy death. Harry I associate more with love than rules, because that's what saved his life as a baby, and is The Power The Dark Lord Knows Not. But I don't know which aspect that would be. Probably Hope or Heart? Time's good for Hermione. She spent most of her third year time travelling. I agree that Neville is probably a Page. He's a Potential Boy in a way that Maids don't really seem to be, although it's hard to tell with only Aradia contributing much to the plot.
Harry should be Heiry. But bad joke aside, Heir works. He inherits the protection, the cloak, the role. He's very reactive, responding to what others do but initiating very little himself; even the DA is because of resisting outside limitations, rather than starting with a love for it. But he does find a love for teaching and guiding, seeing the others improve. Spoiler And he even inherits the soul fragment from Voldie, however unintentionally. Heir of Heart(soul) in a very literal way.
I'll take criticism on the others, but Voldemort is definitely Heart, not Time - he has the soul-splitting thing going on with the horcruxes, he destroys his identity as Tom Riddle (which he hates, since it ties him to his muggle father), his innate abilities are all to do with possession or mind control and he requires his followers to essentially give up their own identities as Death Eaters. He does hate and fear death, but I wouldn't say that he was on a quest to defeat it - he's more concerned with ruling wizarding Britain and defeating Harry. (Also, I always thought Imperio was the Death Eaters' most dangerous weapon, not Avada Kedavra) I'd also say love is more Lily's thing than Harry's? She's the one who made the sacrifice after all.
