    yep. i figured the fusion spirit probably was 'cause of that, but i'm still amazed that they didn't leave the spirit part off.

    Meanwhile I'm like "mumble grumble my fanfiction is relatively not-shitty and no one's reccing me on there and yet this bullshit," so I'm admittedly largely thinking out of spite here.

    (Incidentally, the HS/Battle Royale crossover I ranted about is recced on the HS fic rec page. I left some very strong opinions in the review section, though. :P)

    ... meanwhile I've been saying it more ace-ee...

    the one reason I'm glad I didn't get named Calliope was proven when Homestuck Calliope was revealed and I was the only one in my fandom circle who knew how to say it.

    (Still considering it for a name change though.)

    I'm always amazed at how many people mispronounce Calliope. She's one of the better-known Greek muses, ffs.

    And @Starcrossedsky, ace-ee is p much it. ACE-ee, though, not ace-EE.

    I think it's a Misplaced Englishism, i in a syllable by itself is usually the "ee" sound, not the "ai" sound it has in Calliope. Plus people expecting the e to be silent as in pope, rope, and nope.

    Yeah, it's just odd to me because the mythological Calliope is a fairly well-known figure, compared to the other muses at least. Plus it's, y'know, the name of a musical instrument.

    Yeah, like - even if Harry came out during their school years, Ron would at worst be deeply awkward and maybe a bit distant for a few months. The closest he got to ditching Harry as a friend was during Goblet of Fire, when he thought that Harry had somehow figured out how to circumvent the Age Line on the goblet and gotten his name to come out, and that Harry was just not sharing how he'd done it. And even then, that only lasted up until the first trial, when Ron could really clearly see "hey, no, this is not something Harry would've voluntarily signed himself up for, someone's trying to kill him. again" and there was awkward making up and then everything was okay again.

    Ron would, at absolute worst, go "wait, shit, did you ever have a crush on me and I just didn't notice?" (And, then because I headcanon that Ron is bi, go "sorry mate, I would've kissed you if I'd realized! ...we could've gone to the Yule ball together, bit of a missed opportunity there really".)

    My oblivious bi ass (or must I say.... oblibious) honestly didn't understood why Ron and Harry didn't take each other as dates at the Yule ball. I did not even know I was half gay at the time. Good times.

    I think I remember seeing a drarry fic where both Ginny and Harry realized they jumped the gun and were playing other people's expectations of them, so they got a divorce and stayed friends with shared custody of the kids and Harry quit being an auror and just tried to build a life independent of his status as the boy who lived. It was really good and well written and also, obviously, hadn't been updated in ages and I ended up losing the link. I don't even remember if it was on AO3 or DW or whatever, much less name or author.

    Good wonderful headcanon. I am so pleased. I love bi Ron too. Why would wizarding society have the same feelings on sexuality as the muggle one anyway, since they separate themselves so much? (How can J.K. honestly expect us to believe that out like five generations of characters, only one is queer? I could and WOULD write a fucking treatise on Remus Lupin and Luna Lovegood and their queercoding.)

    @witchknights
    I've seen one like that! It was a long finished one shot on a03 so probably another fic but they were really wonderful and such good friends and Harry kept bees and was friends with Blaise and it was super soft and nice honestly.
    Also I'm still positive Dean and Seamus took each other to the Yule ball.

    I actually wrote that about a year or two ago! It was probably while it was still a wip though, because what the heck was that ending? I don't think I could recommended it after that.

    I am vehemently pro-shipping-what-you-want, but in my fandom it's happened a couple times that people will ship a thirteen-year-old multiple murderer with the only mother figure he's ever known and not acknowledge that's what they're shipping. Ship away, just don't present it as healthy!

    Given the fixation on bloodlines in parts of wizarding society, I could see some prejudice, but it wouldn't look like Ron going, "You kissed a boy? Urgh, that's gross," it'd look like Lucius and Narcissa going "okay but when are you going to marry a suitable pureblood girl and produce an heir to carry on the Malfoy name and bloodline." European nobility for a lot of history was like that; people didn't care too much who someone was doing on the side as long as there was an heir and everyone was sure whose it was. (And even that could be circumvented if you decide there's mpreg magic, in which case you'd just end up with Lucius and Narcissa going "no that boy's bloodline is too impure, find another one.")

    (Can I once again whine about the fact that since my fandom is so tiny, the only person who's drawn genderbend art completely changes the protag's entire demeanor and personality to "generic tsundere" and this is intensely irritating to me?)

    @LadyNighteyes

    I'm frankly unsure how I feel about mpreg magic, but I actually totally agree on that. I feel like you could basically be with whoever you wanted and it wasn't a big deal as long as the Magic Bloodline (TM) stayed Pure (TM).

    Also yes, please, whine about this. This sounds whineable. What fandom is it?

    It's definitely "has drawn" in the past tense, because this is one of those "five people and a shoelace" fandoms and I... don't think we've had any new art in the tag in months. The offending genderbend art was a year or two ago- protag in canon is an extremely quiet guy with a tight handle on his reactions who has difficulty with the idea that people could actually care about him, and, well, their genderbent version was a generic tsundere. Also not helping: a lot of it also involved a ship which I like but I fully admit is a huge mess and is hit-or-miss even in the best circumstances, and the character changes they made surgically removed everything I like about it to turn it into Bad-Anime Generic-Dude/Generic-Tsundere Het. (And, additional petty complaint: protag in question is pretty androgynous. All you'd need to get a viable f! design is to change his build and facial shape a bit. But nooo, gotta make her look much younger, much shorter, and with a completely different hairstyle and put her in a miniskirt.)

    I did not and am not going to say anything about it on Tumblr because I'm pretty sure the artist is pretty young, but I wish there was some genderbend art that actually kept the characters' personalities and looks.

    Yes, exactly! I mean, considering how much the purebloods are fussing about their bloodlines dying out, I'd be surprised if there weren't spells or potions or something that could let a same-sex couple have kids! It's just a missed opportunity there, honestly.

    (It'd look like Molly going "oh how lovely, when are you planning on having children?" too - and then someone cluing Harry and Hermione in on the fact that there's magic for that.)

    I bet the Malfoys wouldn't necessarily even require that Draco marry someone, too - just that he have a pureblood kid who isn't a bastard. And that could be managed with a well-written contract and a surrogate - I'd be shocked if it were the first time in history that any pureblood wizard had needed to do such a thing. (Well. I bet the Blacks didn't. I bet they tutted and sniffed about it, because using a surrogate was advertising that you couldn't manage it on your own (but I bet using a surrogate is less dangerous, if it's two guys). But I bet the tapestry would've accepted those kids just as easily as any other kid.)

    God, now I'm imagining pureblood family heir-production drama gossip and it's amazing.
