Tis the season to bitch and moan about everything mother nature can throw at us, so let's vent all those complaints so we all feel a bit better this winter.

I have sensory issues, so I actually love the extra dark, especially with all the pretty lights people put up. I love snow because it's visually calming and it makes the world seem extra quiet. I even like sliding on ice as long as I'm not in a vehicle. I don't even mind the cold as much now that my thyroid issues are under control.

But why why why does the air have to be so dry? My nose is running all the damn time even when I'm warm, and half of it is blood. At least my skin hasn't started cracking yet. My eyes are too dry, my mouth is too dry, and these are likely med-related problems but humidity helps ameliorate them if there is any humidity, but there's not. It hurts to breathe through my nose while I sleep, presumably because my sinuses are bleeding, and if I breathe through my mouth my gums get dried out and unhappy, which is probably not a healthy dental situation. My family took my humidifier away because the wicking gets moldy after a while and needs to be replaced, and I guess nobody had the energy to deal with that, and my mom doesn't like humidifiers anyway because she's terrified I'll get legionnaire's disease.

Everything else is cool but I can't stand the dry.

    It cold
Which means the heaters are on
Which means my small stuffy room is an overheated mess
And I'm cold if I leave my room
    Especially the kitchen
It's drafty and my toes are still warming back up

Want to come live in this shitty valley with me? It's always damp here. In the summer its so humid I can't breathe and in the winter the damp that gets into everything makes it feel about three times as cold. If you have any allergies theyll fucking murder you every spring, and if we get more than half an inch of snow the roads will be impassible just because the other southern drivers don't know how to drive in it. But hey, your nose won't crack.

Eta: even during our three month long drought where it didnt rain once from august through october, it was still humid.

I've never lived in a valley before. It somehow sounds very romantic, though it probably doesn't feel that way in real life. And when you put it that way, a cold humidity doesn't sound very fun, either. I still might like to visit such a valley until my sinuses heal.

My room is now significantly better than when I last posted, though. I ferreted out the old humidifier from the back of a closet and made noises about replacement wicking. A few hours later a new humidifier that heats the steam and doesn't need wicking was delivered literally to my bedroom door. Now I feel bad about complaining on the internet.

May we all find surprise humidifiers or other helpful things by our doorways.

Right now it is v cold, relatively speaking. -5F is the coolest it's been this year anyway. I was not prepared for it, just in shirt and sweatshirt. Happily it was more like 50 in the warehouse.

I live in a subtropical region, why is it literally below freezing in the sunshine?

Right now it's only 34 degrees because this is the deep south, but everything is wet and soggy. I will admit that living in a valley between three mountains is very pretty, especially in the fall when entire mountainsides of trees are turning, but in the spring all of the pollen funnels down into the valley and makes it unlivable for a few weeks until it rains. Fun story, we get more rain per year than Seattle. We also get droughts. This place is awful.

Oh. Some dipshit lit the mountains of fire a month or so ago, so there was a ton of smoke in the valley as well. Let me see if I can find the picture.

Oooooo, so pretty! Those plants, and the water, and your architecture isn't covered with gray permagrime. That's some serious smoke, though. D:
