the gayest skating anime (Yuri!!! On ICE)

So I am a) a violinist and b) a huge fuckin sucker for Spanish guitar, and what I am saying here is I really, really want to learn to play the violin part in Eros

 

By 'peaking' I was referring to how they mentioned timing things so that the skaters - or Yuuri, at least - would be peaking during the Grand Prix?

 

Ah! Okay, yeah. I'm assuming that's referring to the fact that these events are all happening very close together, time-wise, and the skaters are supposed to try and avoid wearing themselves out because they really don't get a whole lot of time to rest and recover during the season. (Which is another reason it's a young person's sport!) Since the Grand Prix is the biggest event during the season (only the World Cup and the Olympics top it), they're supposed to be trying to pace themselves so that when they get to the Grand Prix, they're still at the top of their game and able to put on the best performance possible.

this is the expression makes after yuuri's performance. this is the one point in the episode where we get to hear victor's thoughts, and he isn't even thinking about yuuri or his performance. he is ruminating over his past, and how he is unable to surprise anyone anymore

next, in the middle of yurio's step sequence, we have a shot of the back of victor's head. he is inscrutable as a result. yurio's performance has been fantastic so far, it has wowed the entire crowd, amazing everyone. we already know that he's still thinking about his own inability to surprise anyone anymore, and now he is being shown up by a child prodigy

about 10 seconds later, we get to see victor's expression. it's not a happy one. even though not much detail is drawn, he looks incredibly depressed. still thinking about himself.

So I've been watching the dub while waiting for the last episode and I'm quite enjoying it! I have a few gripes about translation in places but they're doing better than the subs did re: nuance and much less no homo.
Also, dub!Chris nearly made me spit-take, he is absolutely ridiculous and I love it

Having grown up a Minnesota native, like most everyone else I skated as a kid but fell out of practice and have no idea how to do it now that I'm old and my center of gravity has changed and I'm... in the deep south. Even back then I ended up on the hockey side of the hockey/ice skating duality. You usually choose one or the other eventually and I chose standing in front of a goal and bellowing at people who got too close.

Which, by the way, hockey and ice skating are like... sister sports. These people would all know the hockey people. No clue what to do with this information personally

It's sort of one of those things where hockey is known as a sport that gets violent so people get disappointed if there's no good violence for a while. And yes, people getting violent with blades on their feet goes south sometimes.

Also it took me several days to watch the newest episode because of life things (let me tell you they were serious life things, as you can imagine they must have been to keep me away so long) and there is only one reaction that matters: reluctantly, with the tranquility of one who has faced misery and come out the other end of it, I can admit that I guess I like JJ now. I guess I'm here, in the zone of people who saw this character and liked it.

A friend of mine has written OMG Check Please/Yuri on Ice fanfic. It involves Bitty watching the Cup of China. Also JJ is Jack Zimmerman's cousin.

Oh my god those expressions were so visceral and painful and good. When this anime wants to/when it has the budget too, frankly the expressions are the best part. God, that hurt. It's one of those things where you make a mistake so easy to make--but so goddamn easy to just NOT make--and now it's just there and there's no way to fix it because you're being goddamn scored pointwise and you just have to live with the fact that you fucked up just slightly and cost yourself so much and NO.

Ha ha ha I read through a lot of these posts before watching the episode because I knew it would be a few days before I could watch it and this post made me thing 'Ah, the Eros this episode will make me feel secondhand uncomfort, better be ready for that,' but that was the opposite of true. I forgot that fierce anger is the hottest thing to me. I was just more attracted than usual. Oh, Yuuri, wow, that's a lot of, uh, passion, oh boy. It's a shame you're angry at yourself and the world and not directing that toward someone.

Mrrrauuughhh that line was infuriating. I mean I didn't dislike it, I just instantly and spontaneously blew a gasket trying to discern what the second half of the sentence was going to be. There was a lot of things it could have been but partly because I was already convinced of a theory (see below) I imagined the ending was something like "...he (Victor) should have been on the ice too" or "...he must be regretting his decision to quit skating," even "...he must be regretting his decision to coach me instead of skating this year." However good a choice leaving his life to coach Yuuri was, both for his personal growth and for like the benefit of any human being who gets to see On Love: Eros skated, there is no way he wouldn't watch the people he used to skate with go on without him and even overcome him and not hurt. Ending high level competition just doesn't go smoothly. Even if everyone thinks you ended on top, there's no way to feel like you did.

I quoted this just to note: absolutely no Chris orgasms (on-screen) this episode. To my surprise and probably yours. Just Victor vacantly reminiscing about their past together as Chris probably orgasmed somewhere in the middle distance.

Yup yup ow yup yup ouch. At this point this is what makes most sense to me. He wasn't happy before this show started. He has said several times that he was particularly unhappy with his career, that he didn't feel right about his own skating, and here are these assholes beating his personal best and/or becoming heroes of their own countries and/or being unreasonably attractive. Actually, considering the absurd amount of emotional ties Victor has to at least half of the people on ice today, it's almost like someone set up this particular competition to hurt him and make him wonder what the hell happened to him while he should have been at his best. Rude, guys.

What else was I going to?... Oh yeah, Victor getting so fucking excited about Yuuri's jumps that he literally jumped around with him once filled my fucking soul. He was suffering for most of the episode, after Yuuri's mistake got to him and then like everything else that happened ended up designed to make him feel, however quietly, like he wasted his own potential, but he was having a hell of a time for about one minute there >u<

How the hell is this show wrapping up. I mean, in my soul, I want the next episode to start with Victor literally collapsing in sobs and being like 'oh my god don't fucking leave me' and Yuuri being like 'oh my shit' and then we just talk about Victor's mental state for 15 minutes and then Yuri Plisetskey wins the thing, but I want weird things.
