Wheras I figured out the party bar aggro but didn't know what the little shapes were until at least level 50...haha. It kind of is, yeah. That's why I broke the skills up into "stuff other tanks also have" and "stuff that is unique to DRK" Essentially, the other two tanks' stances are independent of each other. You switch between them depending on if you're tanking or dpsing. If you get good at it you can switch between them mid-battle, it's a legit Warrior strategy to start in Defiance, make sure you have proper aggro and then turn it off and switch to Deliverance to destroy everything. PLD stances are more annoying to switch because they take a global cooldown and cost MP, I usually don't switch in an instance unless I'm doing a 24 man and switching between OT and MT depending on the boss. With Dark Knight, you turn Grit on and off but you want Darkside on 24/7 or as close to it as possible. All tank stances come with -20% attack in exchange for higher defense and enmity generation, but the reason DRKS are damage machines is that Darkside cancels out about 15% of that while active. I will say I'm talking about optimization here, so don't sweat it if it's difficult at first or sometimes you need to just leave it off and focus on tanking. It takes practice. Since you're starting w PLD you'll get a good chuck of the cc abilities you want by default. The marauder ones aren't essential for doing your job, they're just nice bonuses. I started with PLD myself and it was a good way to learn the tanking ropes before going into something more complex. A lot of Paladin's 50+ abilities are support related or defensive. Dark Knight's are mostly more things to hit the enemy with. So it feels like there's more to do because you're using them constantly instead of saving them for shit going down, if that makes sense.
Makes total sense to me! I'd probably use paldead to level it honestly that's how I planned to do machinist on my main
Necroing this to say I figured out streaming. Currently doing some mindless levelling to distract me from the misery that is the US election. https://www.twitch.tv/pyjamaenzel Currently no sound which i apologize for, i'm talking to partner on discord to keep us both sane and I can't figure out how to make it only pick up game audio.
! Someone else that plays! I was debating on making a thread but I didn't know if anyone would be interested. I did some PotD and mindless Eso grinding for my relic tonight to distract me lol What server do you play @Enzel ?
Yeah, this thread got buried because i finally figured out how Tumblr sideblogs work and had somewhere else to gush at people. :p My main's on Adamantoise, but I have over 20 alts so uh. A lot of places. Also we have a Kintsugi LS on Balmung.
^ I'm out of sub right now but I also play on turtle and while we don't have a Kintsugi linkshell over there, enzel's in my dwrp's linkshell which is p friendly also.
Also my anima is currently 65/240 and I am slowly dying inside. Got my recruits to 40 and my GC promotion, tho!
yeah, I'm not playing right now but I have two characters on Balmung (Anhelia Aescar, Roegadyn female, maining Bard right now, and Jamethiel Knorth, level 40 or so Monk)
This game looks gorgeous and super exciting and I would love to play it but is there no way to do that without having to pay to subscribe because seriously
@Socratease there's a free 2 week or month long trial? I forget which. Also Benchmark, which lets you try out the character creator including the expansion race and run around a bit, it's meant for testing your computer to see if it can run the game. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/ http://www.ffxiv-freetrial.com/na/?...m_medium=sp_buyarea&utm_campaign=na_freetrial (May need to go to your country's version of the site if you're not in the us) You can go as far as level 30 I think? And if you decide to buy it you can keep going with that account, you don't have to start over. Otherwise the game itself is something like $25 to start with, which comes w a month of game time included, iirc. Sometimes it goes on sale on Steam too. (I know it was as low as like $10 once) then lowest sub fee is $12/mo for 1 character per server, 8 total. So it's cheaper than WOW at least? Regular storyline goes up to level 50, and if you're dedicated you could honestly get it done in that free month if you wanted to treat it like a regular rpg and just play it once, haha. The expansion you do have to buy separately and it has more story and goes up to level 60.
Can vouch that it's possible to get through ARR in the free month, at least if you also use the free trial time. I was part of the way into HW when mine ran out.
I should add, if you do buy Heavensward, you have to get it on the same platform as the base game. I.e. if you got ARR on console, you need HW console version. Same for if you get it thru Steam. Regular PC version and Steam version aren't compatible.
Ah, managed to dig up the source. Reddit user https://www.reddit.com/user/kayemm36 A second one on aggro management: http://i.imgur.com/PEnLMF9.jpg Edit: also i noticed a mistake in my DRK guide a few pages back about what Reprisal does. Will fix.
So turns out I'm still v interested in trying this, but I can't seem to access the free trial to even download it! What could be causing this? EDIT: WHOOPS WRONG REGION NVM
It's downloading right now! If I turn out to love this I'm hoping the game goes on sale somewhere over the holidays. By the way, what server should I be aiming for? From reading around I'm getting the impression that Balmung isn't really an option.
I know Enzel and I both play on Adamantoise off the Aether center, I don't know about anyone else? On that note, I'll be using the four days of free game time Monday-Thursday next week. No point in catching the weekend crowds unless I have to.
hm, basically the way the servers work is any server with a max number of people online will be closed to new character creation, and since Balmung is so crowded and popular, it's more or less impossible. It used to be that you could wait for people to get kicked off the server for maintenance and squeeze in, but so many people caught on (and want to make RP alts, since it's The RP Server) that everyone tries to do that now... Honestly, from observing different server culture, Balmung isn't that great for newbies anyway. Faerie is a nice server to start out on and usually open, people are really friendly there. And so is my home server, Adamantoise. There is an EU Data center if you're worried about latency (or if you're SEA, most people use the Japanese ones) but it's minimal in my experience.
