May I ask what caused your shift in attitude? You seemed quite disturbed by the ideas of carrying and parenthood earlier.

And their gender was written out for you to see? Even among species with differentiated reproductive systems, parts aren't always an indication of what someone feels.

I do not want to think about a young child looking at a baby's reproductive parts to attempt and make a call on their gender.

Where I am from, in fact, humans have a 'gender day' around age twelve. It varies, but is generally celebrated with much elation.

That doesn't make it right, does it? And yes depending on the parent the child often switches pronouns until they find one they like, are given neutral pronouns, or are given the pronouns fitting 'traditional' roles. The latter is unpopular, the neutral pronoun choice is the most common.

It worked rather well for my master's family, and my master. It is of course accepted that things may change later in life, though it is a bit rare.

 

And again: parts do not always match how someone feels. Some girls have... dicks, is that the plural?, and some boys have what humans would consider 'girl parts', and some have both or neither or entirely alien systems. Until the little one can communicate, we can't ask, but a neutral reference is, in my opinion, the best option.
