Because one of his sons was prophecied to inherit all his power and his position, so he tried to avoid that by eating them. But his wife got sick of it and gave him a rock last instead of Zeus, and Zeus got raised by a goat. Meanwhile Cronus got super sick, puked up all his kids, and then they fought him because he ate them. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

The baby getting raised by a goat and then defeating Cronus sounds like an awesome idea!

 

In a certain mythology, a prophecy said one of Cronus's offspring would kill him once they were grown, so he wanted them all dead before they became adults. Because trying to buck the timeline ever goes well. [She rolls her optics.] One of his children, Zeus, was hidden away by his mother before Cronus could kill him, and once he was grown he killed Cronus in vengeance for all his dead siblings.

 

Actually Zeus came back and gave Cronus something to make him puke, but same dif.

Ironically, this means the oldest child, Hestia, was puked up last, and was functionally the youngest.
