Out of universe, it seems to be a reference to the almost racer-like uniforms pro gamers tend to wear?

 

Jumpsuit makes some practical sense from what we can see of the cockpit- it looks pretty cramped in there and she's getting in and out at high speed a lot, so having as little loose fabric on her clothing that could get caught on things as possible might be sensible. Some body armor would probably be even more sensible, but as far as reasons for a character to be dressed in a skin-tight jumpsuit in a war zone go, I think D.Va's got a surprisingly decent one.

 

Armor... probably would be helpful, but maybe not as much as in-game suggests. It also looks vaguely like it could be a fire-resistant suit? 'Realistically', that'd be the main concern because anything that can penetrate an armored battlemech... well, you're not gonna be able to stick enough armor on a person to make a difference.
I mean, obviously overwatch isn't particularly realistic, even in the comics, but...

 

I know a lot of professionals racers have essentially catsuits for that reason, so there is real world precedent.

 

I was thinking armor not so much because she might get shot through the mech, but because her combat strategy has her outside it during fights occasionally.

i stayed up til 7am playing competitive yesterday (today?)
having a good team backing you is addictive, i never thought id find comp this fun
(we hit playinum within three games of each other. the one game where our self declared leader was the lowest rank on the team was pretty funny.)
....unfortunately that's probably my last time playing for like 2 weeks bc I'm going home for the holidays and I don't have a computer good enough to run it there </3 Do we know when the xmas event is over? I wanna make sure i have everything I want but I only ever buy stuff at the last possible moment :P

I don't understand the "it's not relevant to the game" argument. The game is basically a fundraiser for a movie. You can't even count on things in the game being canon to Overwatch lore!

 

Wonder how many of these are the same people who threw massive tantrums when they changed that one OOC fanservicey Tracer win pose in beta.

 

Every single thing those comics reveal is irrelevant to gameplay. If you don't care about the characters, then alright, there's nothing in the comics for you. Tracer's girlfriend should be no more pandering than Rein being granddadly, or Athena giving herself a little hat for a holiday party.

 

That's one reason the one saying "I DON'T BELIEVE IN LORE!!!" was so funny to me. Like. Okay. Then why do you care about anything that happens in the comic.

 

These are blizz fanboys, they're use to getting exactly what they want and thought the Overwatch team would be exactly like the WoW team (Which even then is getting better in baby steps).

What I like is the people who complain about how a bunch of story information for, say, Final Fantasy XIII, was buried in the codices.
Why didn't they read the codices? Well, because they weren't interested in the story...
