The Briarwoods are super compelling villains because of their motivations and the fact they had no moral event horizon on how far they'd go to protect each other. The way the dice fell and resulted in Vex and Vax both nearly dying at their hands, and Vax's reaction to that, god. Excellent mirroring.
And Saundor oh my GOD I was watching that live and VIBRATING because I was scared shitless and utterly enthralled at the same time. I still think about if Vex had said yes, what could have happened. Sealing the deal with a kiss, her blood being replaced with black sap, bark growing over her skin, a collar of thorns around her throat. A sharp pain in her chest, a feeling of emptiness. Trinket groaning and backing away from her.
GOD.
If any member of VM would go Briarwood for another I absolutely think it would be Vax for Vex. Maybe not the other way around, not for lack of love or anything, but because Vex is much less impulsive than Vax is.

You have a point. He literally did make a bargain with a god of Death to bring her back. If Vecna had offered instead of the Raven Queen...?

And wow, yes, I'd read that fic. Can't see her taking the bargain in any timeline where Vax survives, but if he fell to his death from Umbrasyl, and Percy and Keyleth couldn't talk her down... I'm 50/50 on whether Trinket would shun her or the bond would corrupt him too... Doubt Saundor would be into sharing Vex with a giant bear, though. Maybe he'd be just one more lost soul wandering the Shademirk, mourning forever...

(it was actually really fascinating, how vax gave in and had faith that he'd come out the other side and how percy carefully took off everything and tried to find an exit in the bottom of the pool. faith vs science. "did it choose me because I was broken or did it break me". the concept of a divine bidding war over the members of vox machina. I always love stories with that concept of the main characters being important not because they are fated, predestination picking them out of a bunch and going "you, you get to Do The Thing", but because they create that fate, just by being who they are and doing what they do. writing their own stories as they go.

I HAVE A LOT OF MOSTLY INCOHERENT FEELINGS. also I love the D&D pantheons and how mercer uses them. his description of the raven queen and the way he told her story was excellent.)

Grog's INT and WIS scores mysteriously climb about 5 points each when Vox Machina are squabbling among themselves and unable to think of a plan. I want to see Travis play an actual strategist at some point. I think he'd shine.
