Much respect to you and all non-offending MAPs. Also, high five on your avatar! Dororo is one of my favorite Tezuka manga.

Not familiar with terminology (and tbh really afraid to google it...), what exactly is "pro contact"?

ETA: and how exactly is "anti-contact" defined? What kind of contact?

Also if I may, you skipped (?) @Beldaran 's question and I am really curious as to what the answer to that might be...

@wixbloom "pro-contact" is "in favor of having contact with children," I think—like, I have no experience with this terminology, but that's what would make sense. so, say, a MAP who doesn't see a potential problem with their being an elementary school teacher or regularly babysitting their seven-year-old niece. "anti-contact," by contrast, would be MAPs who believe that it's best if they stay away from children (or the children they're attracted to, at least) entirely.

I thought so, but I'm curious as to how contact is defined... are there varying definitions?

Hey y'all. I came back cause I hear this forum is a safe space where you don't have to hear any dissenting opinions ever and is Now 99% Pedo-Free™! Sarcasm ofc, I was just reminded how much I liked this place when I saw Seebs on my dash again ^^ So I'll be answering questions and just generally being here like last summer, just with more complaining about classes lol

I explain contact as anything done with a minor that is done with sexual/romantic intentions. Sexual abuse is contact, but so is that piggyback you asked her for to feel her close. So is that date that explained to her parents as just a "playdate." You see how intention can make these innocent actions harmful? Sure, the child doesn't know they're being taken advantage of, but it sets a hugely problematic precedent.

So holding my baby cousin once-removed and tickling his sides doesn't count as contact because I'm not attracted to him and I don't intend for the contact to be sexually gratifying. This same action can be counted as contact for another because of impure intentions. You see? For healthy MAPs, the line feels pretty defined even if it seems a bit fuzzy to others. Non-MAPs can think about it like the line between being friendly and flirting with your best friend's significant other who you have a crush on.

I may be over-explaining ^^ I haven't been able to have civil discussions about MAP stuff with non-MAPs for month so now cause of how extreme people have been lately.

Also ooh. Thanks for that explanation of some of your thing. Good to know. It makes a lot of sense in retrospect, honestly. The last bit on how to think about it.

kind of curious questions sorry I have many
where did the term MAP come from and is it the general preferred term for all people with pedophilic disorder within the community? is there a MAP community? does the community include offending MAPs, or just non-offending ones? do you consider watching/downloading/distributing child porn to be something that makes someone an offending MAP?

The term MAP was coined by the organization B4U-ACT - a collection of MAPs, non-MAPs, and mental health professionals whose intention is to educate the public and mental health professionals on MAPs and the nature of chronophilic attractions.

It's impossible to know if it's preferred by everyone with the disorder, but I can speak from personal experience with MAP communities. The folks on tumblr and the B4U-ACT forums definitely prefer the term MAP. I haven't spent much time on VirPed but I hear the folks on there are fine being called pedophiles (some prefer to be called by the specific attraction they have, like hebephile, etc.). Pro-contact communities like the term boy/girl/child-lover (which squicks me out every time I hear it) but often don't rebuff at being called a pedophile.

There's no one MAP community, no. There are many. They range all the way from small groups of MAP friends on kik to huge forums like VirPed, devoutly anti-contact places like B4U-ACT and Tumblr to (unfortunately) deep web or irl pedophile rings, secure private forums like the Tumblr community has to Twitter where MAPs are often threatened to be doxxed by hacker organizations.

I'm most involved in the Tumblr MAP community, which is for the anti-contact and non-offending MAPs. The only exception is one user who had been arrested for possessing CP, served his sentence, and is seeing a therapist regularly. There are some in the community that still don't accept him, and that's fair, but the tips he's shared from his therapist have been invaluable in advising people against offending using CP. ¯\_(=_=;)_/¯ There are pros and cons to this. If that makes the community seem weak against past offenders, so be it I guess. We've absolutely cracked down on having any past child abusers in the community though.

Yes, as I slightly hinted at above. If you're getting off to an image of an actual child being abused/taken advantage of, than you have offended.

I specify real child because every single argument I've heard against sim cp (shota/loli/3D renders/whatever else antis wanna argue is somehow harming real children) have been somewhere between just conjecture and absolute bullshit. If y'all wanna argue this, please do it elsewhere because I'm so tired of this debate and I like this thread (- -;)

thank you for answering my questions!
I think I wouldn't call the community you're involved in 'weak' against past offenders; it sounds like the person who previously offended and is part of the community is trying not to do it again and also has helpful tips to offer and I think also having a community will, in the long run, help him hopefully not offend again. and I think the Tumblr MAP community sounds, at least from what you've described here, like a healthy and helpful thing for MAPs on Tumblr. I'm sorry y'all have to put up with so much shit on Tumblr, though.
and I should've specified, but yeah, I only meant cp as in "real actual children involved".

The whole philosophy behind why MAPs have created a community on Tumblr is because it's been shown that one of the most prevalent attitudes among pedophilic offenders is the feeling of isolation that their attraction has caused. If we can prevent this feeling of isolation and instead create an environment where MAPs can share their experiences and learn from each other, I feel a lot of harm can be prevented - both by offenders who harm children and by MAPs who self harm or commit suicide.

Such has been the focus of my online presence both at dorothemap and mappositivity for the past six months or so.

Thank you. It's felt a lot healthier ever since I started actually using the block feature on folks who leave suicide bait in the positivity tag. It's not perfect, but I enjoy trying to make it better.

does anti-contact include me, a minor, stepping out btw? i don't want to make this uncomfortable, but i've been wanting to send 'as a minor I Am Not Bothered,' but i'm not sure what the proper etiquette would be, here.

  12. doro

    @leo

Not sure what you mean by "stepping out" but you can do whatever you want. MAP blogs are list themselves as nsfw to keep away from minors and some softblock minors when they follow them or message them. But I'm sure a stray "hey I'm a minor and you're cool w/ me" or smth like that would be fine. If you really wanna play it safe, send it on anon.

    I'm glad you're back!

I wonder if I can get involved in B4U-ACT somehow. afaik I don't know any MAPs in person, but I'd like to support the non-offending community in some way.

So this is a kinda different type of question than others are asking here, but like. I look at a lot of (drawn) shota and lolicon. I don't think I'm attracted to any kids irl, or ever have been - maybe occasionally people around 16-18, but it's definitely not a specific fixation. But I get off almst exclusively to shota/loli hentai. Does that mean I qualify as a MAP at all? Or should think of myself as such? Sometimes I wonder if I'm lying to myself about not being attracted to kids irl, but any time I actually imagine it, I think I'm really just not. My default assumption is "nah, doesn't count. you're just odd in your hentai tastes." but idk.

  18. doro

    doro Collector of Unfortunate Sexualities

No. If you aren't attracted to kids in real life, then you are not a MAP. It's the same reason furries who like nsfw furry art aren't necessarily zoophiles. I think the fact that you're exclusively into lolicon makes it a bit more likely, but if you haven't noticed an attraction to minors yet (I'm assuming you're at least 18 or so, idk), it's not likely you ever will.

I'd still try to diversify your porn intake though. I won't get into it, but porn induced erectile dysfunction is a real thing that happens to people and no fun. Indulge in some pornography that encourages realistic expectations. Also, no need to worry about the 16-18 y-o thing; ephebophilia is extremely common and - unless it's exclusive - completely benign.

  19. Just sorta as more anecdote- I don't feel any significant difference in attraction getting off to shota/loli or adult-centered hentai, and also feel no irl kid attraction (I get invasive thoughts about kids sometimes, but thats invasive thoughts :P) I don't know how common/uncommon being unbothered by 2d kid porn is, but figured it might help you to hear that you're not alone at least in enjoying it while not being a MAP

Yeah, I also take in a lot of kid-centric 2d porn while not being interested in real-life kids. Not sure just what the appeal is, but it's there.
