In today's endless cycles: I send out my Botanist retainer Jenyfr (pictured) to gather cotton. I use the cotton to make stuff for the Order of the Twin Serpents, and get weaver XP and seals. I use the seals to buy more Venture coins so I can send my retainer out for more cotton. Spoiler: big
Spoiler: more heavensward MSQ tears, why are there so many GA BU. AND THAT FUCKING TITAN FIGHT. This game is full of emotionally compromising moments and I both hate and love it, but ugh. That shit messed me up and I was close to tears during it because it was just so sad. Also, in related news, I really fucking suck at titan and prove all the stereotypes about dragoons being the most incompetent dps class true. Used jump just before landslide was cast. That was embarrassing. Ga bu :(((( Anyway, now I've played through the entirety of the MSQs and am looking forward to the next patch. Aymeric asked me out on a dinner date (it was originally just going to be a drink, the sneaky bastard) and I really liked the touch where your character spends so much time staring at the servant preparing your tea or whatever out of suspicion, since you've recently been drugged in the same way. It was especially funny because the entire time during that cutscene, even before my character stares at the servant, I was talking to my friend who has already played through and asking whether Aymeric and I are going to end up poisoned or if one of us dies during it. I appreciate that all the awful shit that's been happening hasn't really been brushed to the side or only addressed in a really shallow way, like it kinda would be in WoW (the only other MMO I have any exp with). The storylines are a lot more personal in a way I like. I'm upset that Thancred stole my kill on Emmanellain, though. That was my headshot, god dammit.
Also, has anyone else noticed how gigantic your arse looks in the Wyrm armour from the dragoon quests? I swear some of the armour in this game literally changes the size of your hips and waist, because it's not the only set I've noticed that does it. The waist shrinks, and the hips expand. I know for a fact my Au Ra doesn't have that sort of booty with the armour off. Also the incompetence of the PC and his pals never ceases to amaze me. Spoiler: HW msq, as always What on earth did Aymeric expect was going to happen when we threw the eyes away? Literally anything else would've been a better choice than leaving them in the snow for any motherfucker to pick up. Goddamn Hraesvalgr could've taken them, he showed up the minute after we chucked them.
I def have noticed certain pieces of armor will change your body shape. Like. certain pants/boots will give you KILLER THIGHS and others are like, meh. Also on girls some gear does...things to your chest. It's a little weird. (if you buy the Minfilia outfit it basically comes padded, which is kind of funny.) Spoiler: re: spoiler RIGHT GOD. I'm not usually thrown out of the narrative but that was like. Really? Are we really that dumb? Are you serious? THIS IS GOING TO COME BACK TO BITE EVERYONE IN THE ASS. It was clearly one of those "writers want this plot device later so everyone is suddenly incompetent" moments...and what do you know. Fuck Ilberd tho seriously, I can't wait to punch that douche's face in.
Haha, it's funny you should mention the Minfilia thing, since it's well known that her boobs grew like... several cup sizes... between 1.0 and 2.0. The difference is pretty incredible, so I consider that padding to be canon for Minfilia. That or people's theories that the calamity had some interesting side effects on her are true. I mean, that's who I'm guessing he is (I actually felt like the false Griffin had the same VA as Ilberd, but I have to admit I'm not 100% sure and I may have taken that "I speak with his voice" as more literal than it was intended) given the backstory and all that, but I wasn't sure if it was confirmed as of yet. That said, I'll be pretty fucking glad once that shithead gets knocked out. I just hope it isn't a cop out like what happened with Ser Zephirin, was definitely expecting more on the revenge front than just disappearing into the aether as a background dude after evil pope goes down, especially considering the comments he makes during Thordan EX. It was kind of weak. Incidentally, what does everyone think about the theory that the WoL is, or is becoming a primal? I had assumed it was just some sort of fun theory, but the way some of the cutscenes are shot make me think that maybe that's what SE are going for? Thordan VII's comment at the end of his trial, plus the really needless cut to my face where there was nothing I could be/was reacting to during a discussion/pointed comment about primals has been making me think there might be something to this theory. If there isn't, then I'd love to know what the people who make cutscenes are thinking given that random as hell cut. Shit's weird.
Minfilia was a teenager in 1.0 and in 2.0 she's 25, so it's entirely possible they grew that much...can confirm from experience. :( Spoiler False Griffin was Gallien (the NPC from like, level 25 msq). I'm pretty sure the Griffin must be Ilberd. Either that or they're dropping super obvious hints that it's Ilberd to make us think it's him and then reveal him to be someone else...but the only other candidate i can think of is Widargelt. Otherwise it's gonna be someone totally new and that seems to defeat the purpose of the mask and secrecy. (also from what we can see it's probably not Widargelt judging by skin tone.) I will never forgive Ilberd for Wilred. NEVERRR. NGL every time i get Thordan in DF I pop all my cooldowns when Zephirin shows up and go to town...it's uh...cathartic. I think the primal theory is interesting but if it were true I'm pretty sure Y'shtola would have noticed w her aether sight and all. And talked to someone about it. It makes a fun AU idea tho. Also it would be a bit redundant after Coils? Idk if you've done them. Edit: re: Minfilia: her dad is Ala Mhigan but a Midlander model-wise so @Akiv'a and I joke that her mom must have been a Highlander, and she got her dad's height but her mom's boobs. it also explains the fashion sense, since Ala Mhigans are allergic to clothing.
Huh. How long did 1.0 last canonically? Because there's only 5 years between the calamity and now (or at least, when she disappeared. Timeframes in MMOs are hard to judge), so I wouldn't have expected her to have had so much natural boob reinforcement between 19/20-25, unless she also gained weight in general (which doesn't seem to be the case). Spoiler Fucking Wilred man. I felt awful about that, kid just wanted to make a difference and was weirded out by some monetary discrepancies, and it got his throat cut. Fucking horrible :( I haven't done Coils personally, but I did watch 1.5hrs worth of cutscenes of it so, yeah. That said, I'm not really sure how it makes it redundant? Is it because of Phoenix? I would've said that unless people know about the Phoenix, any sort of wishes for salvation would be more likely to focus on the person doing most of the stuff. Otherwise there'd probably be no point keeping it a secret, if it's something you can summon without even specifically knowing about it. Unless it was specifically rebirth they were wishing for. That said, I guess the lack of ridiculous amounts of aether probably does prevent it. I'd say something about the lack of prayers at once as well, but I feel like Thordan showed that you can actually use backup prayers from years ago, and Gilgamesh showed that you really just need to wish a primal into existence, rather than specifically praying. I've seen people justify the lack of call-out by the Scions (which is probably the weakest link in the theory) as them actually having been tempered by us. Which, granted, is not a great defence, but I do find the concept kind of interesting. Primals and their lore continue to be confusing as shit.
Spoiler: more of the same idk who has seen the 3.5 trailer yet but there's a voice line that's basically the LAST voice line in it and it... really sounds like The Douche of Ala Mhigo so I'm assuming it's him. in which case given the REST of the contents of the trailer, his killing wilred takes on another more suspicious turn, because the Dumb Kid was one of the only ones who would have spoken out against a "raise a primal against the garleans" plan given how well his... own attempt at that went...

I am not entirely sure, there is a timeline somewhere, but I'm pretty sure it took place over some few years. I've watched a bunch of 1.0 cutscenes and it's very...unclear...what's an Echo flashback and what the PC was actually experiencing. In the Ul'dah opening you see Minfilia as a 10 year old, and i think she was mid teens when she started the Path of the Twelve? (the group that would become the Scions) Spoiler I was thinking of Phoenix, yeah. Just the idea of "actual existing person becomes a Primal", I guess. Not that the other primals couldn't be based on people: Garuda is confirmed to be a former Allagan general, though she's not that actual person but rather the image the Ixal had of her passed down through the ages. Hm. Gilgamesh is a special case because Hildy quests are where the laws of reality go to die, but...yeah. :p Is this meant to be read as hyperbole or serious? You don't have to discuss it if you don't like it, but asking people not to on a thread about the game is kinda much.

The Shiva storyline kind of seems to me to imply that a person can't become a primal just through people believing in them, because the primal gets made from the idea the believers have even if they think they're believing in the actual person. I haven't seen the Phoenix stuff though, so I don't know if that contradicts my impression there. also i am angry, they made outfits for most of the scions but left out TATARU when very clearly she is best cinnamon roll and most important scion, how very dare.
I was hanging out in the Scions' storage/hangout room the other day and I was thinking to myself, "wow I bet I would be really excited if I knew who any of these people were". I may catch up on ver. 1.0 cutscenes eventually. For now, I am playing characters who have no idea who anyone is. Also: the ARR MSQ can get a little bit annoying with the constant sidetracks to point me at ALL the level-appropriate quest hubs.
