OK I don't actually know much about Miqo'te lore, but I headcanon that they do social signalling with their ears and tails just like housecats do, but being human-level sapient it's a lot more deliberate and there are rules about what positions to use when. And my character, being fairly ADHD/possibly kinda autistic, always approaches with tail in "hi new person you are shaped like a friend!" mode, which can sometimes be considered highly insulting.
btw people were passing this around tumblr, i haven't checked myself since i just did msq and then faceplanted in bed, but apparently the title you get for finishing MSQ is a HUGE spoiler so people who haven't done it yet may want to hide other players' titles. the option is in Character Config > name settings, I think?

Just finished Baelsar's Wall. Spoiler Holy shit, please tell me I'm not the only one that found Ilberd's death inappropriately hilarious? I don't think they were trying for comedy, but holy crap. I feel like I laughed harder at that than I did for any of the Hildibrand quests. And that's not even in a "haha die pl0x Ilberd" sort of way, just the entire way it's framed (probably helped by Ilberd's not so great voice actor) is funny. All in all, 11/10 splats, would watch again. I'm kinda curious what gets said if you say you'll stay behind with Papalymo though.
Spoiler: re: dialogue option Nothing gets said. He just immediately turns around and blasts you onto the airship with magic. It's actually kind of hilarious even as much as it Hurts.
I HAVE A PIC of my bard from years ago... I miss her... My husband hated that I played as a Lalafell but I enjoyed being a tiny archer....
@Meagen Image nah they just did an emergency emergency maint because the Aether data center stopped working and wouldnt let anyone on. If you're on Aether data center, you can play now. Regular maint is still scheduled though.

To be nitpicky: if you pick the "stay with Papalymo" option, you shake your head no as in "I'm not leaving" and then he throws you backwards with magic. :'> Dun Scaith: it was hella fun, actually. Tough but rewarding. First time I've done a 24-man right away after patch. I think we got a good group, tho (besides the 1 guy who'd done it before but did a shit job of explaining mechanics, so we had to kinda figure them out on our own anyway) I didn't expect a happy ending to the plot, but i was pleasantly surprised. Also, the DBZ jokes everyone was making about Hollow Diabolos...lmao. Tho i kept thinking of Bleach. Hildibrand: Character development!! For Cyr!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it :D :D :D Re: Hobo's comment, I definitely think the humor has...morphed into like. nearly dada absurdist humor instead of straight up slapstick. Which is a STRANGE EXPERIENCE but still pretty funny...but it was also awfully heartwarming in the end. Still working on my Scholasticate quests. Note about the last Anima step...you need to do it as the class you're getting the anima for. I did one dungeon twice before i figured out why it wasn't registering as completed. :( Adventures with cross-server PF were successful, I think i get how it works now. Spoiler: 3.5 MSQ Tbh, I'm sort of bothered by the Papalymo thing... not particularly because I care if he dies (there's been too many fakeouts for me to care about the fates of any of the scions at this point, frankly, and this one definitely feels like a fakeout.. though I did feel bad for Yda), but because it felt like the plot point about the spell killing the user doesn't really jive with what we've seen. And it felt cheap. And why can he summon the power of the twelve without prayer? And why did Alphinaud, who a few patches ago was all "I REFUSE TO SACRIFICE MY FRIENDS ANYMORE", agree to sacrifice a friend? Like... I never played 1.0, but was the 12-makes-babby-dalamud spell canonically meant to kill the user back then? Louisoix didn't die immediately after using it, and for something that supposedly drained all his aether, he sure was capable of using magic to teleport some assholes into the future. I don't know. Either way, I'm not a fan of where this seems to be going. I still can't get over Alphinaud deciding to leave the guy behind after his damn 3.3 epiphany about not giving up on friends. I'm also confused about why Yuyuhase is still involved in this plot. Why would he care about what happens to Ala Mhigo? Laurentius I can see sticking around because he's a simpering butthole, but unless there's a lot of money in summoning primals I am not understanding Yuyuhase's involvement at all. Hopefully part 2 clears a lot of this stuff up, because at the moment it's really just leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
Spoiler: scholasticate That was sad :(((( But it was also a hopeful ending. I do feel like Lebrassoir needs to run the fuck away from Archombadin though, regardless of the latter's change of heart. Poor bastard. What is it with all the Hildibrand-related sidequests being full of sad feels right at the end? Also, SPECTACLES, fuck yes. Crammevoix was my fav, just look at this shit. Definitely MVP.
@Hobo here's my theory. Spoiler I think it's not so much "the spell is supposed to kill the user" as "any channeling of a large amount of aether, without prior precautions taken, will just grab whatever is around including the aether of the caster themselves." In Louisoix's case, he *did* have time to prepare, however the spell failed because even that much power couldn't stand up to a Bahamut that had been marinating in his Lindt chocolate ball for 5 millenia. So Louisoix ended up putting the aether in himself and using it to fight Bahamut head on, after doing his time magic thingy, and it was that that turned him into Pheonix. In Moenbryda's case, the white auracite protected the caster by being the specific source of aether, however again, there wasn't quite enough, so she used her own to give it a boost, and that was what killed her. Papalymo had no real time to prepare whatsoever, and he made everyone leave not just because of the danger of tempering if he failed, but also because he wouldn't be able to direct the spell not to drain them too, I assume. The other stuff I agree with, though...there was very little buildup, which is why i feel like it's possible he's not gone. We were actually just talking about this last night and @Akiv'a checked Yuyuhase's entry in the lore book. He worked for Lolorito at first but apparently Ilberd promised him a high ranking position in Ala Mhigo if it were freed. Which makes me think he didn't expect Ilberd to kill himself.

JFC I just did the weeping city for the first time, and I'm stressed out doing new instances in general but this one... holy crap. First we had an alliance that would not shut the fuck up about being drunk and how much better they are than the rest of us (because they stayed alive the longest during the first boss (which we wiped on). Problem was, they were the first to wipe on literally every other fight, and we went through multiple wipes on Ozma (no less than 5, and the 2nd boss was close to a wipe). And these mechanics... wow. Talk about fucking stressful. I fell off Ozma's platform twice like a gigantic idiot (one time wasn't even during the fight, it was when I was trying to walk to my alliance's platform). The tank in our group didn't have any idea of what he was doing and would run away from us when we were supposed to be stacking and blahhhhh. So many wipes. My friend who was helping me run it described it as the worst Weeping City run he's done since it came out. Fuck alliance B. No one cares if you're drunk, and we sure as hell don't need to hear about how totally drunk we are you guys every 3 minutes. God damn.
If it makes you feel any better, I also walked right off the Ozma platform before the fight started my first time, too. Whoops...I've seen several other people do it, too. That said, my condolences D: people don't call it Wiping City of Salt for no reason, it's basically The PUG Breaker right now. People who think they're going to be carried have another thing coming. (our first run most of our alliance was new, but we had 1 summoner who just. stood there. the whole time. doing literally nothing. maybe throwing out a ruin every few minutes. And refused to roll on gear so we couldn't kick him. idk if he was deliberately trolling or not but I was PISSED. because everyone else was doing their best to learn the fights. Thankfully the other alliances rezzed us a lot and gave us advice.)
Honestly, I feel like I would've been OK with the wipes if it weren't for that alliance calling us all shit throughout the entire instance while also playing like idiots and using the wipes as more justification for being douchebags. Just... completely insufferable. People like that really make me regret playing MMOs.
Friend of mine linked a new Dark Knight item from the latest patch in FC chat with the comment "Waaant" and I have spent *way* too much time in Complaints Department Circular File because my first instinctive thought was "wow, I don't see those two words together very often".
