That's like trying to figure out whether my body is dreaming, not dreaming, or both at the same time. Of course it's dreaming, but not everyone can do it to this extent.

And now me and my friends ended up in the place where we dream, but there's other people there as well, but they're awake.
The dreamselves can change things, but only themselves, and only as long as they focus. The waking selves are as usual.
