yeah, jasper/malachite's stripes seem REALLY weird now. I had already though it was weird that Lapis didn't have anything like that on her own, since lapis lazuli has stripes of calcite and pyrite. And like you said, sardonyx the gem also has stripes, but Sardonyx doesn't. In fact the only gem we've seen with stripes besides Jasper and Malachite was the forced fusion.

I just saw the episode and
seriously, wow pearl, wow. I'm kinda worried that rebuilding the tower made the message go through more, and there's gonna be BIG consequences down the line.

Actually I don't think it did? Because! Peridot's message was visible on the TV when she rebuilt it, presumably since she set it to broadcast on all frequencies or whatever. When Pearl rebuilt it, it just sent out white noise. Since no one was there to fine-tune the signal or whatever, there probably wasn't anything broadcasting but white noise, the way it was back in Coach Steven.

that makes me feel a bit better. but only a bit, cause AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Sardonyx is wicked cool though. She's so dramatic, it's great.

Well, distracting the team from actual threats or missions by rebuilding the communications tower so she could fuse with Garnet, but thinking about it again, I guess it's mostly just endangering Steven rather than the whole team. Like when she and Steven made their rocketship and she was so intent on getting back to homeworld that she risked his safety. I really don't think she actually likes it on Earth. Just a theory, though.

Also, the title of the episode being "Cry For Help." I don't think it refers to
Peridot. It's Pearl. And Garnet being so pissed (however rightfully so) makes me think this is gonna have long term consequences. Pearl's been more and more fragile and erratic and it feels like it's building to something.

Pearl wasn't going to Homeworld in Space Race. She was heading over to 'the nearest star system' IIRC, and I don't think she actually thought it'd be dangerous for Steven.

Ahh, gotcha. Well, at the very least, she kinda has some tunnel vision going down sometimes. It's a flaw I find very relatable.

I think that's exactly it. She fixates on whatever her current goal is and doesn't tend to see the consequences. It's something she and Amethyst have in common, which is kinda neat since they're so incredibly different in most ways.

I'm rewatching the episode and I noticed when steven's watching crying breakfast friends with garnet he comments on the episode saying something like "poor Pear, I'd forgive her" and I know it means absolutely nothing but Pear and Pearl sound super similar lol. I mean, if we were taking this to mean anything though, when he's watching it at the end of the episode the other character does forgive Pear, so? *shrugs* also, Sardonyx has diamond shapes on her shoes, which I thought was interesting. Rainbow Quartz also has sort of a partial diamond shape when Rose's star usually is. Opal has three diamonds above the star on the front tail of her tunic too.

Which is really interesting since I think Opal is the most sedate and subdued of all the fusions so far.

...though she's had less screen time than the others. HMM, maybe she just hasn't had the chance to show downsides/flaws.

Obiviously, we need one big episode with ALL the fusions. ALL OF THEM.

I figured it had something to do with Pearl's kind of flashy, show-offy nature (the dancing, the bragging to Greg and Amethyst, etc) combined with Garnet's confidence and sense of fun. But that might not be what you mean, so.

    also thanks.

well you could argue that rebuilding the tower = more chance that the message got out and puts everyone at risk. However... I am not sure if that is the angle they are going for. Pearl said that Peridot repaired it the first time, and I'm assuming that they all though one message is enough since Garnet was mad that Pearl wasted their time that they could have spent hunting down Peridot and not "more messages were sent!"

I am not a big fan of "Pearl betrays the team because she is yandere for Rose" kind of theories because it's been shown multiple times how much she loves everyone else. Not that I don't think "Pearl going dark" is out of her character or anything, but I think if they ever go down that route that it's not something intentionally malicious. More like the events of this episode where she goes way over the line because she just isn't thinking about the consequences. Like the crying Pear who said "I didn't mean to!" when asked why they lied. I mean, it's still not a good thing and it's still damaging but it has different implications on her character and motivations. I think what is most likely is what is already happening: Pearl keeps fucking up to varying degrees, improving little by little over time

I think this episode was really good at showcasing the flaws in all of the crystal gems. None of them are outright evil or malicious but they all end up hurting each other anyways due to their unresolved issues. Pearl is selfish due to her own lack of self worth, Amethyst also displays some of her issues with self worth (and there was a great parallel between them. Their insecurities, how they both really screwed up the last time they fused with Garnet. I really liked how Amethyst stuck up for Pearl. In a lot of ways my brother and I had a similar dysfunctional relationship but we'd still stick up for each other if we felt one of our parents was being unreasonable/mean and it was kind of magical.) Speaking of Garnet, even though her feelings are totally justified in this episode she also was a lot more "fury" than "patience" in this episode and didn't even try to understand Pearl and Amethysts feelings. Even though Garnet has been shown to be more than capable of giving out solid advice a lot of times she keeps her distance from others and sort of excepts them to be able to figure it out for themselves. Kind of like Steven's impersonation of her in Tiger millionaire "I'm not going to say anything, but I expect you to know that it's wrong". Okay, so circumstances are different in this episode but I think it's just a small part in a much larger problem.

Also, her fusion with Amethyst at the end of the episode was disturbingly similar to Jasper and Lapis. It was clear that Amethyst was uncomfortable with Garnet but Garnet didn't care about her feelings and just wanted to wreak shit. It was really uncomfortable to watch how definitely-not-into-it Amethyst was especially when you see her normally super excited to fuse with Garnet and how bummed out she was earlier in the episode when she couldn't. That was not okay. Not okay at all. Not just because Pearl's feelings were hurt (which is what most people noticed).

the differences between when amethyst first thought she would get to fuse with garnet and then when she actually did were heart breaking. poor thing. that was wicked uncomfortable, I really wanted to give everyone hugs this episode, but her especially.
