I keep thinking about how the localizers for Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice must have been so damn pleased to get to come up with ~foreign~ names for this one because their terrible name puns were no longer required to be restricted by "names that could conceivably occur in English." I only just started Case 3, and already we've got: A tour guide named "Ahlbi Ur'gaid" A security guard named "Paht Rohl" (the AAI2 fan translation version of that pun was better) A hippie musician monk who looks like Jesus named, I shit you not, "Pees'lubn Andistan'dhin". And yes, somebody asks "What's so funny about Pees'lubn Andistan'dhin?" and I had to close the 3DS and stare at the wall. The abbot of a temple is named "Tahrust Inmee" There's another acolyte named "Puhray Zeh'lot" And of course they haven't stopped with the normal pun names either, because in Case 2 we had: A bunnygirl magician named Bonnie deFame Spoiler Her twin sister Betty deFame, who naturally has a bat theme A magician with the stage name "The Great Mr. Reus," whose real name is "Manov Mistree" because of course it is A TV exec named Roger Retinz, who is of course nicknamed "The Ratings Rajah" ACE ATTORNEY, EVERYONE.
His wife's name is "Beh'leeb Inmee." If you need me, I will be lying face-down on the floor. (P.S.: There is also a major location called "Tem'puhl Temple.")
"The witness has suffered a blow to the head, rendering him amnesiac. Therefore, I named him "A'nohn Ihmus" in my report." ...Honestly, that makes me like you better.
I just realized: Spoiler: Rogue One Given his name, does Vader's "don't choke on your ambitions" line count as a dad joke?
I haven't seen the movie, but wasn't it "aspirations"? Spoiler I only remember this because I saw a post point out that it was a multi-part pun, since "aspiration" is a word for breathing.
In other news, I found out an Ace Attorney character lied about his name, and his real name was... *drumroll*... Rheel Ney'um.
Last night I was 99% asleep when my dad started doing something in the next room over that involved knocking on the walls. I'd barely progressed from "wtf is he doing" to trying to come up with something funny to say ("come in"/"who's there?") when he stopped. When I woke up this morning I tried to come up with other reponses, but soon I realized there was no point, since... Spoiler Opportunity knocks but once.
The game instantly gained back some goodwill when I found out the defendant in Case 4 is Bucky Whet, of the Whet Noodle soba restaurant. Combo thematically-relevant pun and series history in-joke!
