you know those touchscreen games you play on your phone or tablet? the ones that are free but you run out of stamina just when you're getting into the swing of things and end up spending money anyway? who else loves those?

puzzle and dragons, final fantasy record keeper, and one piece treasure cruise are the ones i waste my time on. they're really nice distractions while i'm doing my PT exercises, so i play them just about every day.

I love those. My current favourite:

1010 - sort of tetris, but then in more of a puzzle form, and the object of the game is to keep playing by keeping the board clear enough that you can place pieces in them again and again. When the rows/columns are full they clear, and that's what gives you points.

Yeah they're one of my guilty pleasures. Especially the strategy ones where you build things and have to wait for them to finish. I like my Skinner boxes for when I'm out of the house or in bed.

Current one is Age of Sparta because it's pretty good at not being super pay to win/progress like most of them.

i suppose i should mention, since there are so many different kinds of tappy games -- the ones i like, that i mentioned above, are all the slightly pokemon-ish 'collect cards/monsters/heroes for your team, level them up, fight monsters' kind of games. something about putting collecting level-ups for my pet creatures makes me utterly happy.

one piece treasure cruise is my favorite. even if you don't like the manga/anime or have never looked at it, the game is really cute on its own merits. you collect a bunch of extremely weird and silly pirates, go to different islands in various weird and silly pirate ships, and fight a plethora of weird and silly enemies. sometimes a penguin slaps you with a fish. my current captain is a dockyard secretary whose special power involves declaring "that's sexual harrassment!" and kicking everyone in the head. my current project is beating up a whale so it'll be angry enough at me to stop running into a cliff and wait for our fated rematch. i am honestly not sure what could possibly be better.

I like those too but the ones I've tried are very "have/invite 50 friends to do things!"

well, their idea of 'friends' is very specialized :D

basically you don't have to interact with another human being in any way, you just get to use one of their characters sometimes. like the maximum human interaction is that in ffrk you can set a 'message' for your 'wandering warrior' that has to be under like 24 characters or sth, so most people's is something like 'hi' or the name of the special ability their character has on offer.

in what world that counts as 'friends' idek. :P

This is so cute aghhhhh. Definitely worth the half hour it took wrestling with my 3ds to get it downloaded. I'm lucky it has to recharge actions or I'd be playing it for hours.

Any Clash of Clans players here? I'm slowly upgrading the buildings and walls of my TH8. I don't play it that often these days, just when I'm listening to a podcast because if I'm not playing a game at the same time I can't focus.

Bitcoin Billionaire is a fun game that's a literal tapping game (think cookie clicker style). Not much replay value though.

From around sixth grade to sophomore year of high school, I was really into Kongregate. I still visit sometimes. It has a large collection of cool flash games and the cool thing is that you earn badges for your account by getting achievements in the games (which are all user-submitted. The site picks the best ones and gives them badges, which is helpful for sorting through the crap.) Anyways I guess that's not exactly the same thing but since a lot of flash games become mobile games it's similar? I really enjoy Level Up by Titch. Cute game, super fun mechanic. And Run, bc I'm a sucker for 3D platformers. And Air Pressure, which is a dating sim that's a metaphor for hard drugs.

Tappy games! =D I love the games by Kairosoft. Their English translation is not always fantastic, but it just means some instructions are phrased weirdly. My favourites are Bonbon Cakery and DreamHouse. They are for both Apple and Android devices. Some of their games are free, but others you have to pay for.

I also like FlipLine's games, especially their "Papa's [insert food]eria" series. They're mostly browser based but they have some that they've ported over to Apple devices. You have to pay for them but they're ad-free. They're repetitive "make people food" time management games and I love them~ I played them all the time when I was stressed out in high school and I still play them now. The browser ones are free tho, but there are ads.

I also like Candy Crush and a game by the same people called Alpha Betty, which is like a find-a-word kinda game, but has the same sort of mechanics as Candy Crush. You connect letters to make words and the letter tiles explode and sometimes you get power-ups or special tiles.

I also like another crossword-like game called Bonza. It's like a puzzle and you have to drag the letters around to get them to fit together and make the words. You're given a clue like "worn on the head" which gives you can idea of what words to look for.

As a kid, I read a lot of video game magazines. I remember one talking about the new possibilities in phone apps, where everybody can make their own game. The article reassured people that the good stuff would rise to the top and that it wouldn't just be a bunch of Bejeweled clones.

Candy Crush, a Bejeweled clone, ended up rising to the top.

    Ooooookay
Lemme drop my slightly embarrassing collection of favorite games on here, lmao
(I only own Android devices so idk if these are available for apple users)
I adore most of kairosoft's stuff, seeing as a lot of their games are pretty similar in formula it's usually really up to preferance of what kind of packaging you want. Personally I own Beastie Bay which is kinda RPG-y with some village builder type stuff to go along, Game Dev Story, where you built a game developement studio, and Magazine Mogul which is almost the same as Game Dev Story, but with a newspaper instead and some neat economy/town building mechanics on the side. A lot of kairosoft games you have to pay for but it's in the impulse purchase range of prices and they don't do in-app-purchases or free2play/pay2win stuff!
Plague Inc. is my go to strategy title. It's the 'You control a disease and try to kill all of humanity via evolving your disease to be more infectious and deadly' game. I thiiiink the base game is free with additionl scenarios/special disease types being in-app-purchases.
Ridiculous Fishing is extremely great. You have to buy it but it's just really really ridiculous and great.
Cut the Rope is an adorable Puzzle game which is free-with-ads on Android.
If you like Tower Defense Type stuff, Plants vs Zombies 2 is free on Android afaik.
Time Management wise I own Sally's Salon and Sally's Spa, both of which you need to buy, but are really great imo! I was so happy to fidn them in the playstore, I played them on the computer when I was 15 or so. Mobile port is a great decision!
Annnnnd new in my arsenal is Cooking Fever which is also time management and free2play/pay2win. It gets pretty fast paced, has a steep difficulty curve if you don't do premium currency but a great variety of gameplay despite being kind of repititive. If you delight in repeatedly sticking shrimp into a frying pan in your shiny chinese restaurant and then baking cake in your nifty bakery, making burgers and hotdogs in a fast food joint and then losing like five times on the same level in your new pizzeria, this is a very good game for you!
My mom plays Hay Day which is one of those farm building and upgrading type games. She says its very addictive and great!
Edit: Oh and there is also Final Sky which is pretty cool! My brother plays that one.

I don't have much to add but I downloaded Puzzles and Dragons last night and I really really like it, enough to consider just buying the 3DS game of it. I also have FF Record Keeper but that's a bit less fun to me for some reason, I think I just really like match-3 games.

An Actual Bird neverthelass, Brid persisted, ate third baggel

Fiz Brewery Management is an Android title in the same vein as the Kairosoft games (which I also adore <3). It's surprisingly deep and has some replay value, but it's not free.
Of the Kairosoft games, I love Beastie Bay and High Sea Saga (both free), and Pocket Academy and Game Dev Story (both paid)
Cow Evolution is free, and is a fun time-waster, although the replay value mostly lies in collecting all the different mutations which can be kind of tedious.

Aaaand I'll think of some more later. Off to try out some of your recommendations >:D

has anyone played the tablet version of minecraft? i assume it's vanilla only, and vanilla minecraft is gonna be frustrating after all the mods i'm used to, but it could still be a fun change from all the pokemon-type collect-and-fight games i usually play.

@jacktrash I do! Not very often lately, though, so my info maybe out of date. It's not quite vanilla because, IIRC, they're adding everything from PC Minecraft gradually and they haven't finished yet? So for example, last time I checked, you couldn't trade with villagers, and there weren't any horses, they're missing some blocks (no flower pots!), and enchanting isn't a thing. But I think a bunch of what's missing is supposed to be added with the next update, which has a "possible release date" next month.

If you just like building things then yeah, it's pretty fun to play.

They had Goat Simulator on sale on the iPad app store for AUD$1.29 and I was like, Yes, it is time. It is ridiculously fun, tho it makes me feel motion sick after awhile.
