What do you guys think of the claim that onion is autistic? Idk how I feel about that, actually? Because I think a lot of young kids are quiet/shy and weird with food - my goddaughter had a complicated thing with food when she was 3-6 and most of my younger cousins don't talk much to the rest o the family beyond their parents and grandparents because they're like that too- but then again it might be just a small reference pool and a family thing.
I wouldn't rule out the possibility, but I'm not really one to accept certain ideas unless its by word of god or blatantly said outright. Onion seems REALLY young, so it didn't really strike me as something strange any kid would do (especially because Vidalia struck me as the type of parent who lets onion get away with EVERYTHING for the sake of letting him express himself :P) However, I'm a bit confused as to why people are starting to get a little defensive about how people perceived onion initially (spawn of satan, creepy, etc), considering that his actions are STILL going to be creepy, strange, and unsettling even if he is indeed autistic. :o
When I saw the episode, I called Tumblr either deciding that Onion was precious neurodivergant bby and therefore Steven was ableist to be creeped out or Onion was a terrible, horrible abuser. Spoiler I love how Amethyst and Vidalia don't make a big deal out of the different species, age gap or different lifespan things. So many other shows would've at least touched on "my human friend has aged so much and i havent and im going to outlive her" and here its just no big deal.
I honestly Connie as being autistic and don't really see Onion that way? I mean, have fun with whatever headcanons you like. Though IIRC I've already seen tumblr posts about how jokes about evil onion are now awful and ableist, and I wouldn't be surprised if those Yellow Diamond=Onion jokes got construed as SO YOU THINK AUTISTIC PEOPLE ARE EVIL INHUMANS????
Spoiler: Vidalia and Ame @Mentarnes yeah I really like that they didn't stress it outright, though you could see Amethyst kind of marveling at how much everything had changed since she'd last seen Vidalia. She got married, had another kid, Sour Cream's practically an adult, she moved to a different place(assuming since Ame had no idea it was her place until she showed up), etc. But yeah she didn't seem distressed or anything just maybe a little regretful for not being around in so long because she's missed so much. And I think maybe that's partly because she's already lived for sooooo long. She's probably had lots of human friends before and had to outlive all of them before, so it's probably nothing new or frightening. It's just the way things are.
I found it really weird and vaguely disconcerting, personally. But then I do not cope well with loss at all. Even remotely. I AM THE POSTER CHILD OF ATTACHMENT. It does fit very well with what I know of Amethyst though. Weird and uncomfortable as it is to see because I am just off in my corner of AND SHE IS GOING TO DIIIIEEEEEEEE.
Yeah, I can definitely see how that would affect your view of it. I'm more like how Amethyst seemed to be- things die and that's a fact of life, and yeah it's sad but you should just enjoy them while they're around. Probably because growing up(and still now) my family has a whole lot of pets, so I learned from a young age that at some point they're going to die before you, and sometimes there's nothing you can do to postpone that.
I have always had lots of pets and yet I still have huge issues with it. I get weird about moving and falling out with friends too. Losing things and things changing just freaks me the fuck out and no amount of constantly moving or my pets dying through my life has helped me. And this is why I am Buddhist and look at flowers and go "I am like this flower as is everyone I know. WE WILL ROT AND DIE AND SO FAST".
Spoiler: Onion Friend thoughts Onion has always creeped me out but I really REALLY loved the Vidalia/Amethyst friendship, and I really love that it DIDN'T turn out to be "young child has a weird crush on adult/person WAY older than them" because that happens a LOT in media and it's always really really skeevy and frustrates me a lot. 8I I'm also really glad that Amethyst didn't get mad at Vidalia for settling down and mellowing out, and glad that Vidalia didn't get mad at Amethyst for still being... Amethyst. Because that's another trope that happens a lot in TV that's super annoying :\ yay for SU breaking the mold again!
Well this was a pretty fluff episode but I enjoyed it! Spoiler: That shadow Though the scene with that giant woman shadow rescuing Dewey looks like it could potentially be the temple fusion of all four Crystal Gems, or an entirely new fusion involving Rose Quartz and Amethyst or Garnet. I suppose we'll see one day.
Spoiler: Oh yeah! Hmm, how many arms did she have? I figured it was the Temple statue, but it's possible they fused while Pearl wasn't there. Also, I wonder - Pearl says that the lands aren't very hospitable to humans or something, but I wonder what that means about people already living there?

Spoiler: historical friction I was really wondering where the Native Americans were throughout this play, though I suppose @Wiwaxia had a point, what with: Which makes me question how wide of a birth the locals gave the crystal gems. Something tells me though those waters aren't going to be explored if at all.

I rather disagree with the premise that humans are becoming less and less important to the plot - just because a major thing happened with the alien characters just recently and so dominates the new episodes, does not mean that the human characters are less important. It's not a zero-sum game.
You have a point, but I think they've got a point too that maybe we should be paying more attention to Yellowtail in the future than we currently do.
I've just been kind of low-key assuming that Yellowtail and Malachite were gonna cross paths. I mean, you got a fisherman and an ocean-bound rock monster. What are they gonna do, not run into each other? No way. Fictional worlds are small as hell.
