SO. I am currently 20 minutes and change into episode 1 of this Voltron thing. Redirecting my liveblogging energies into the thread for your enjoyment.

-Keith seems a little nuts. I like him already.
-Keith's cropped jacket is one of those things that really only works in sci-fi anime
-The fact that everyone's calling the robut a lion but it's got no mane implies that it's specifically a female lion. I appreciate that.

 

Also, I'm assuming that photo Hunk found in Pidge's bag was him and, like, his sister or something. Not girlfriend. They looked a lot alike.

 

The retro space-fantasy bits of this are absolutely delightful.
A secret enclave of British moon elves. ZARKON IS A FOUL CREATURE, HE MUST BE DESTROYED. The blue lion, Voltron, the only thing that can defeat THE ANCIENT EVIL. The robots will form telepathic bonds with the CHOSEN ONES like we're on Pern and they're dragon riders and I definitely just saw an evil wizard surrounded by purple magical glowy shit.
Fuck yes.

I love Lance but I will be forever disappointed in him for interrupting the worldbuilding, haha

 

Pidge is cute and brave. Also thank you for asking the questions I was wondering about, like: How does Princess Allura know without a doubt that these people will bond with their magic robuts as she describes, but she doesn't even know where the red lion is? That doesn't seem to make sense.
Yellow lion has an underbite for some reason.

@prismaticvoid I NEED WORLDBUILDING. I know so little about this setting I can't tell what's plausible and what's not. Like, has mankind colonized space? Is this school a technical institute on Earth, or are they on like Mars or something? Come to think of it, how old are they? Are these high schoolers, or is Pidge a young college freshman?

 

Is space under the jurisdiction of the military, Earth government-funded science, or corporations? Is the school a public or a private institution? What kind of jobs are these young pilots looking at when they graduate??

 

Huh. So, Pidge has a brother, eh...? Iiiiinteresting. I'll just pretend I don't already know where this is leading and enjoy the ride.

 

Huh. That was fun. I hope the pacing gets less breakneck now that the basic premise has been established, though.

 

Things I can tell you with certainty: the Galaxy Garrison is on Earth. Humans have advanced somewhat in space exploration (making it to Kerberos) but have not made any colonization efforts.
Things I can tell you absolutely nothing about: Anyone's age :P There isn't a whole lot of canon personal info about the paladins in general, Shiro and Lance have canon ethnicities and Hunk's was stated by his voice actor but beyond that, not much. The other paladins are younger than Shiro and Pidge is the youngest, but no canon ages.

 

Oof. Kneejerk emotional reaction to Pidge being called their birth name. I know her(?) situation is almost certainly different from mine but the sooner all this stuff is spelled out the better.

 

I feel :( if it helps, their gender is like...the smallest deal ever, which I really dug.
