Soooo I just read Every Heart a Doorway which means AU TIME.

Pretty sure Myrtha ended up in a High Logic realm of eternal night. Possibly she learned magic and also learned Court Intrigue. And also how to stab someone.

 

Lemi would probably come from a High Logic world where everyone is always being watched, the type of place where there is a very specific set of Rules to survival. I think free from my luck she would do pretty goddamn well there but it still wouldn't leave her with great coping mechanisms for our real ass world. She'd wanna go back just so she could make sense of things again.

It is a novella about children who found other worlds and then were kinda dumped back home.

it is VERY much like that. The main differences is that the book is about a school for those kids (run by a former child chosen one.) There's a compass describing the various kinds of lands - the main directions are High Logic, High Nonsense, High Wicked, and High Virtue, though there's various other minor directions to get even more specific and I'm pretty sure that the compass system is descriptive, not prescriptive.

on the other hand they do weird things a lot that should not work ever, so high nonsense would also work

maybe moss went high nonsense and was just like "no no no no no no nonononono" in increasingly higher pitch the whole time, because that would be incredibly amusing to me

 

Actually, it seems like every world that a kid goes to, at least at first, feels like coming home, for them. The doorways open up to kids who are in some way, repressed or don't fit in, and they open to a world where they, for once, fit. So you don't get a world that you hate or don't get. At least in that 'verse, things can be wobbled around as we please.
