On an entirely different note, the last page of the fancomic Dogs of Future Past reveals that Dogs of Future Past!Frisk accidentally created that 'verses Annoying Dog. And in the process, gained a taste for dog treats. Result: Frisk sneaking onto the roof in the middle of the night to sneakily eat dog treats.

 

I'm familiar with it, but please spoiler tag the end of that comic. It's a great punchline to lead up to.

apropos of the wt discord chat: when i first played undertale, i thought the manly bandanna used to be papyrus', since drawing abs on a bandanna sounded a lot like something he'd do and it was in snowdin. i was very surprised, reading fic, to discover that it actually was supposed to belong to the orange soul human. 'cause, like, come on, a bandanna with abs on it is so him!

One of the ideas that some fans play with is "what if the skelebros were artificially created from the skeletons of fallen humans."

Papyrus is pretty much always associated with the orange soul human, partly because color scheme (he's got so many reds and yellows to him, and having him orange while sans is blue is a nice color contrast) and partly because bravery and the mandanna seem very Papyrus.

I know of at least two comics that go with that idea. Neither quite matches my headcanons in several ways, but both of them have some really great moments. Remind me to look for them and link them.

and i reckon sans is pretty much always associated with either the light blue soul human or the blue soul human. those are the colours i've seen his SOUL be in undertail stuff, at least, and they fit his canon colour scheme. it's interesting that, despite the game never really showing any monsters with coloured souls, they often are portrayed with them in art and stuff.

 

I got an annoying dog perler bead magnet at the local con a few months back. I forget if i ever posted it?

Seems Very Interesting at least has human!origin Gaster, not one of the six SOULs. Unclear if he made the bros. (eta: Work in Progress!!)

Darker Yet Darker, a fun tale of emotional abuse and family. You could say it... gets darker. B)

I will second the Darker Yet Darker rec (and the whole Second Son series tbh), but yeah, deeeeeeeef watch the emotional abuse warning, shit gets awful. On the upside, if you head into the comics that follow DYD you do get some recovery written and handled just as well as the abuse!

im new to this but just wondering, is there a way to mute the game while playing?

 

To mute just the game, while other computer sounds continue? The game doesn't have a volume settings menu, at least. I'm able to mute it on my computer, but Linux. I'm not sure if other operating systems give each sound source a separate volume control.

 

Right click on the little speaker/volume control icon in the taskbar, click 'open volume mixer', scroll until you find Undertale, pull the slider all the way down.

It's not base functionality but there are mac-compatible apps that give the option.

 

I was thinking about Undertale magic-it's possible to imbue magic into a thing to get an effect (see: monster food, esp. the ones that give you buffs), but we don't know how far that goes.

Like. Is it possible for a monster to, say, take Sans's teleportation/shortcuts and make a thing that can teleport? Because...that sounds like magic-based FTL.

 

me and ua were chatting about undertale and the various ships represented (and not so much) in fanworks

we got around to the questions of things like asriel/chara and the rare but intriguing flowey/papyrus

a hypothetical conversation between flowey and papyrus, assuming that they hooked up in a positive way:

On the topic of ships: I saw what appeared to be a fic written on a challenge of "ship Frisk with everyone in the game, make it seem natural". The Alphys one and the Undyne one were the same chapter and involved older!Frisk, Alphys, and Undyne in a triad.

I don't think I've ever seen Frisk/Alphys or Frisk/Undyne before, aside from art which had Frisk flirt with one or both of them and get rejected.
