for a second I thought that was Eject and started getting really sad, but the colors aren't right. who are you, unknown smol

spock, you are Unkind. and who's that poor guy in the corner, probably dying alone??

Huh. Okay. So generally speaking, that and all of these are from mtmte 35, with functionist universe rewind and pals. I was originally going to get a screencap of all the individual data slugs. Which I almost did, so we could see if Eject was in there anywhere. But then there were the big group shots and hgghghghhh NOOOO. But first, all the recalled data slugs. The lighting and long shots make it really hard to tell whether any of them is Eject, unfortunately :T (maybe the one on the top/back of the pile on the cover?)

But also, check out these group shots. The first is when Minimus is finally starting to talk to Rewind, and the second is when he's like 'is it just me or are there a lot of you?' Funny thing, the first screencap has a way higher proportion of data slugs than the second one does even though you'd think they might have done that the other way around. But hey, it comes off cool either way. And I did science on these! By which I mean I scribbled on top of them and counted things!

    proportions 1.jpg

    proportions 2.jpg

Basically, in the first screenshot, 11/18 bots are data slugs. And in the second, it's 11/41. So... if we take these as a reasonably representative slice of the population, and willfully ignore basic statistical theory, somewhere between a quarter and two thirds of the population is data slugs. Annnnnd the council just axed them off because they had the ability to maybe possibly become a threat in the future. Just half your population, gone like THAT.

Additionally, it was six-of-twelve who kicked this off. No idea what that means for the future, but it's interesting that of twelve members, he did this, and he just showed up rocking his silly new head. I am Intrigued.

I made a joke that if only sentient machines are allowed, where's our subspecies of datapad robots, but I mean..... if they existed, I'm guessing they're dead too. I don't think functionist cybertron really does information storage.

Annnnd one set of parallel panels coming up since I have hit my upload limit for this post

Because I never noticed this sound effect parallel, so now you all have to notice it too :3c

So Six-of-Twelve is the Enactor. He's the one who does things, I guess? Or perhaps does Things? Why does he get the Matrix-face? Six isn't even a prime number.
Also not sure why he's the one to display Rung. I thought that would have been the job of the Disseminator. Maybe Six-of-Twelve just ended up in charge somehow. Back in issue 35 with the Council meeting he merely reported on the Theoconomists being divided on the dataslug issue; One-of-Twelve seemed to be running the show.

His original face is a leetle matrix-shaped as it is, and we don't get great lighting on him in LL2, so there's at least a chance this might be down to artistic interpretation

eta: bzzt wrong, I miss detail when I read on my phone :V (though maybe a chance it's made to look matrix-y without being the for-serious matrix)

    theoconomists.jpg

I'm torn, because putting the matrix as your face is... cool... but it's also kinda stupid.... but it's also kinda cool.....

Though generally speaking, I am holding out for some vicious infighting within the council, even if they try to present a unified front. Give me more communism parallels pls OuO

It's not just artist interpretation; Chromedome actually says that it's Matrix-shaped.

Hahaha, that's what I get for reading it on my phone when I'm supposed to be doing work XD Thanks, I totally missed that part!

OH HEY, maybe a chance to get an extra matrix back to the main universe, since we're down to... half a matrix total?

HELLO KIDDIES it is apparently a spock spam night. But someone noticed one of my tags on the functionist recall meta and added a really fascinating/sad piece of commentary

    :C

That's... really depressing. Doesn't matter if Megatron lived or not, no matter what happened, this core part of his philosophy was still effectively responsible for destroying his homeworld.

Spooock, I was already planning on a Rewind-centric thing, you can't keep tempting me with more thoughts about information, misinformation, archiving, and memory :smithsad: I was planning on including tiny scenes from Functionist!Rewind's POV and you are Increasing the Thing

Clearly this is a feature, not a bug XD

The Junkions: walking trash-heaps, metaphor for collapse of an empire, refugees, and stunningly similar to Cybertronians. As the Autobot/Decepticon war spun ever out of control, the Junkions were drawn to ally with the Decepticons. This unfortunate choice made their fragile planet one of the new front-lines of the war, with Prowl leading the forces on one side and Shockwave the other. The Junkions were slaughtered. Their planet was deliberately detonated by one side of the other, a choice so minor in the course of the war it is not even remembered whether it was Prowl or Shockwave who made the call. Their alliance afforded them no protection from the horrors of the war, and to add insult to injury...

...they were irrelevant. The destruction of their entire planet and most of their species affected the machinery of war as much as a bubble would, and was so insignificant to the big picture that Optimus Prime doesn't even know who they are. Their story is so unimportant that as Soundwave relays this, the other people in the room are cracking jokes about how Optimus Prime would have solved everything and put Shockwave and Prowl in their place. They're a joke.

So. They want Ore-13. Rum-maj says it's to rebuild their home, and while the Junkions aren't exactly the most trustworthy source given their fuel for a grudge, they at least want to trade with Earth to get the Ore instead of just attempting to take it like some people we could mention, treating Earth as an equal partner.

And Optimus not only insults them by saying he has no idea who they are and offering a fucking platitude of 'appreciating their plight', he blocks them from dealing with the people of Earth because they've got nothing to offer Cybertron, and because their trading would 'further betray the Tyrest Accords'. The Tyrest Accords, mind, being a war treaty written at the start of a now-ended war and thus no longer applying, the Tyrest Accords being what Optimus is using to justify forcibly colonizing Earth, the Tyrest Accords that wouldn't even apply to Junkions offering Junkion tech to Earth in exchange for Ore-13, because they never signed the Tyrest Accords and aren't even Cybertronian, and which Optimus can only justify blocking them with on the basis that Cybertron owns Earth and Ore-13 qualifies as 'Cybertronian technology'.

It is pretty much ensured that the Junkions are going to attack Optimus and Co, but given that the Autobots are currently in the process of breaking into the Junkion colony ship, they kind of completely deserve it. Try not to lose a leg, anyone!

Like I think the Junkions absolutely have a grudge against Cybertronians for very reasonable reasons, but by those same virtues I'd be really surprised if they out-and-out attacked Earth, because both Earth and Junkion are victims of the Cybertronian war. That being said, it's been pretty heavily implied that Rum-maj and Wreck-gar are heading two opposing factions of the Junkions, so one of them could be more attack-happy than the other, and Rum-maj is holding her cards so close to her chest while Wreck-gar is obfuscating his motives too much with noise and silliness for me to guess which one is more 'dangerous'. Rum-maj strikes me as the voice of reason, but I'm excited to see more.

    I'm reading OP2 and

"Prowl did not turn evil" well if you want to get specific, neither did Shockwave. Shadowplay has this funny tendency to mess people up, you know.

    THUNDERCRACKER.

also is. ok he's not actually the size of the Sphinx, I don't think, so where is he? But if that IS the sphinx then screw you buddy find somewhere else to lay that isn't a priceless wonder of the world.

    BIRDIES! BIRDIES BIRDIES!

Go Starscream! Actually having a point! Earth should definitely have a say in this!
