I am deeply amused because that reads like really early medicine texts. (John Gerard's Herball, 1597: "a purgation of hellebore is good for mad and furious men, for melancholy, dull and heavie persons, and briefly for all those that are troubled with blacke choler, and molested with melancholy." If he wrote it out in bullet form you could sneak it onto the site and nobody would tell the difference.)

I keep this quote on hand because black hellebore, the species he's referring to, is a historically well-known poison and used as such pretty much since people started poisoning each other. I'm sure plenty of people 'molested with melancholy' have made use of it. (To be fair, research shows the roots lack the poisonous compounds and commercial preparations existed that mixed black and green hellebore (green is used as a purgative and for topical parasite treatment, mostly of lice. Still, the obliviousness makes me smile.)
