Would that put reader/character shipfics unilaterally on neutral leaning evil?

(Actually, I think there could be an argument made for "massive, sprawling fic with internal consistency, adherence to lore, and so many OCs that it might as well be an entry into the series rather than a fanfic" being Lawful Evil rather than Neutral Good.)

Where does my 5500 words of lovingly killing and maiming my fave over and over fall on that spectrum?

I feel putting the mountain of Reader/Character fics into the CN pile works out. It's not inherently selfish, but it is putting other people into a weird position they at not want to be in because it pleases you, so that strikes me as being real chaotic and kind of both good and evil in terms of the selfless/selfish divide.

You're trying to be the ultimate wingman! Does the reader like Noctis? Boy howdy, hopefully!

Depends on how well researched the torture is and if it's hurt/comfort or pure whump.

I'm leery about that, because someone can put a ton of thought and effort into a short story and a longer thing can be a rambling incoherent NaNoWriMo mess. (I know I put a lot more thought into the aforementioned 5500 word fic than I did into my first fanfic, which was like 20k and I mostly hammered out in a couple of weeks when I was very bored and very obsessed with my shiny new special interest and I barely revised it at all before posting it.)

Huh. I wonder how "PC character with defining fandom characterization" versus "PC character with specific-to-author characterization" would work on that scale? Like, Shepard and Hawke have pretty easy to establish 'Canon' characterizations (Paragon/Renegade and Blue/Purple/Red, respectively) but Inquisitors, Wardens, Sole Survivors, Couriers, and Dragonborns don't, really. So would it be possible for two otherwise identical fics to fall into Good and Evil depending on their adherence to fandom perceived canon?

(That actually seems much more interesting and useful as a scale than NSFW level, word count, or skill, because it has much more variance in motive than most other metrics.)

Closer to whump, but this is a time-travel-heavy canon, so he dies and then someone makes him not die. Over and over.

We were using L-C for canonicity, though, not G-E. If the scales are canonicity for L-C and fanonicity for G-E I think we've sort of left the realm where it can clearly map onto DnD alignments.

There are amazingly crafted short stories, complete within themselves.

And there are snippets where somebody has an incredible seed of an idea, writes a scene or two of it, and puts it up as a plot bunny in want of adoption.

Yeah but I mean, with essentially self-insert player characters (versus characters like Cloud or Frisk who have established canon personalities) how do you judge where they fall on the self-indulgence and self-insertion scale?

    Kittenly Just Squish That Cat!

Without knowing the author, it's harder to tell. They'll probably always lean a bit more towards self indulgence, but how much is usually best determined by the quality of the character. a lot of the more self-inserty ones will fall into bad/bland writing traps. Good ones just become well thought out and developed OCs, regardless of their self-insert status.

You want my sprawling collection of numerous oneshots in the same universe to have a reasonable update schedule? You want the multi-stage chart of which fics should be read in which order? Too fucking bad. I will lovingly dish out this meticulously-internally-consistent story to all five of my readers in numerous installments of anywhere between 2k and 6k oneshots, when and only when I damn well please, usually months apart. The one glorious exception to this is when I put out two 15k chapters in two weeks, for different fandoms entirely.

Not exactly a gripe, but I just realized that readerfics are much more entertaining when you remember that there's a PPC agent named The Reader.

    hghhrhghghrhhghghhhhhh

So I've been fielding some messages from someone who really loved one of my stories. Awesome! These messages are all coming to me through tumblr messenger, which... less awesome, why this. But still, a person liked my thing!

    WELL

Their first message was how they really liked my one story that revolved around a m/f ship, and good, yes, that's one of my favorite stories I've written. BUT. Then they had to stop reading when another dude got involved and it was m/m/f (note: fic was tagged m/m/f, and was second in a series where the first fic was just m/m, I don't know what they were expecting), and that they know some people react badly to requests like this, but do I have any more stories that are just m/f?

(extra context: they said english is a second language, and their url has '1970' in it and also they type like my parents, so I'm going to go ahead and assume they're somewhere around forty, and I'm not going to persuade them that to start loving slashfic)

Transformers is based on a toy line revolving around marketing and aimed at boys, so you can just imagine how many women are in that cast. And the continuity I write for had a very slow rollout of the ladies, so... no. I don't have any other standalone m/f fics. I said there will probably be in the future, don't know when, but my tags are and will be accurate.

Blah blah, another message thanking me for being understanding and asking if they can commission me for some m/f fics for a variety of ships they listed (i'm going to be nice, but i still don't care for their viewpoint, and even if i did commissions i wouldn't be very interested in helping out with that), and no, I don't take commissions. And also I am very exhausted and short on free time, hint hint.

And then today they write back again saying that they noticed I do valve+spike xeno (tentabulge+nook, basically) for ladies and men and they've always preferred the "classic" valves for women and spikes for men and do all my fics have this? Yes. Yes all my fics have this. Because it is the most popular fandom xeno configuration, and also it is my favorite porny indulgence and I ain't giving it up for nobody, and you wouldn't be interested in reading any of my other transformers fics anyways so it doesn't matter.

*faceplants softly into my comforter* why this. i am tired. i am so tired. i just want to write giant space robot porn without assisting a stranger around their sexual hangups when they're openly not-okay with 99% of everything i do.

(in other fanfic news, today I got a comment! On a fic from 2012! For a fandom I haven't touched since 2012! Saying that GOSH GOLLY they really would love to see a continuation!!! stop. stopppppppp)

My only other non-m/m transformers fics include a girl and her car, nautica and brainstorm (but it revolves about how brainstorm is gay for nightbeat and is buried in a pile of queer ficlets), and... I always have an f/f story they can read! That's the polar opposite of m/m, right???

I'm still writing about a girl and her jet fighter, but all my other pending fics are so full of dudely robots being sweet on each other. My one m/f is waiting on a separate m/m before I can even think about writing it. m/m, m/m, and m/m are all wips, m/m/m is a wip, and m/m/m/m is going to happen as soon as I get the whole trine each independently in love with bumblebee. And all of these robots are going to be perfectly happy with their non-gender-specific alien junk, but guess what part of her anatomy windblade is going to use on starscream the next time they hook up!!

(eta: i have reached semantic satiation on the letter m)

I'm going to be polite, because I am impossible at rude anything, but passive-aggressiveness levels have been turned up to maximum. I've been having trouble getting moving on writing, but wow, I feel suddenly inspired

someone messaged me on FFN a few weeks ago asking if i do fic requests. my dude. my guy. i can barely manage to finish a secret santa fic weeks after christmas. if i accepted requests i would get all twisted up & anxious about em and i would never get them done.

i told this person that and they said it was alright and then "maybe some other time then?"

which as far as responses go isn't that bad but i'm still like, haha, not likely, not with my brain
