I like seebs and I mostly agree with seebs. And in the end he usually makes the right call. But the process of getting there can be painful.

 

we're all super fucking stressed rn and i'm just really unhappy with insult dogpiles on targets deemed as acceptable for whatever reason

i've been upset about this since the first CDCF and that has never stopped being a thing that upsets me across the whole of the forum

 

I don't think displeasure with forum policy is an "insult dogpile." I also characterized Seebs's departure as a flounce. I'm not sure this is incorrect. They left suddenly, after a minor disagreement, leaving behind a strongly worded message apparently to shame those that disagree with them.

I don't consider their behavior in this instance to be particularly mature, the same way I'm not inclined to be charitable towards people who answer "I don't want to talk to you" with "But my free speech!" This is bratty and entitled, in my opinion. I still like Seebs, but I can't bring myself to agree with the way they handled this situation.

 

For what it's worth, Seebs either has me on ignore or is choosing to ignore me.

like i get being mad and upset about a person and their policies but don't expect the people being targeted with nastiness to be not upset about it

Seebs didn't engage with any of those posts. If she wants to make a TCHGB thread to discuss those, she's free to do so (although I don't think there would be much point.) I didn't expect those to piss Seebs off, because I've never gotten the impression that Seebs would be pissed off by anonymous griping.

 

I was replying with specific examples from this thread in response to aspd anon. this is a thing across multiple places in the forum.

i dont even want a long drawn out discussion this is just me saying 'hey i'm uncomfortable with people shitting on people deemed acceptable targets.' because i've seen this for about a year and a half and this is kinda the straw breaking the camel's back for me, and there's been productive discussion here and i do agree with some things you've said

I probably shouldn't have said argument is work. That wasn't very clear or close to my intent.

It's more a matter that my preferred style of argument is very "gloves off". In some contexts, that's a lot of fun and you can get good results. But in the context of most message boards, other people aren't going to enjoy it. So I don't do it very often.

IIRC Seebs started the forum in order to reduce stress from her tumblr inbox always being packed so people could talk to each other directly. This was a good idea and I think this is one of the best forums I've been on in part bc of the lack of overmoderation but despite some of the undermoderation. I also feel like Seebs has been getting progressively more stressed and that eats away at her ability to... effectively communicate, I guess. I don't begrudge her the vacation from Kintsugi at all even if it was pretty abrupt and strongly worded. I think it's a good thing she added more mods before doing that, tho.

Hopefully after a vacation she'll have the spoons to deal w/ stuff on here better.

 

Like I do think there's valid things to criticize in how she handles thing but also, I don't think her stepping out is counter-productive to that.
