Maybe it works like low-light cameras? A second wavelength in near-infrared that your infravision picks up, plus image intensifier processes. Or pure image intensifier but as far as I know that's not that great on its own. Why make the glow visible though? Other than because it's fucking cool, of course.

People where I come from are still hung-up on looking human with all the eye options I've seen. It's why the lenses were pushed, too. Hopefully we can start embracing that mecha look. Nobody minds the clunky metal limbs and Jay wants a camera eye with ZOOM but they can't make that look natural. Not with the shutter.
