so, headcanon, upon reading (currently partway) through the book:

it's canonical that static is kind of like a hypnotic drug for trolls; it induces an immediate trance, they can get addicted to it, etc, and a large part of that has to do with it being a concentrated light source like the sun, only not fatal

but, i'll bet you that for the thousands of years before humans discovered electricity, fire was used for a similar--if much less intense--effect. and i'll bet you that's why being Weak to Fire is such a common thread in mythology about trolls, at least in this universe.

 

I wonder - they have all those glowy crystals, and troll engineers seem to get very bored and deal with it by making overly complicated mechanisms, so I wonder if one of them might rig up a bunch of glowcrystals and mirrors on wheels to make a big soft glowy lightshow.

Things I feel about the Trollhunters book:

-Jim Sturges is a ridiculously unreliable narrator and seems to have a very narrow scope of what's truly happening.
-Gunmar is fucking horrifying, he has like six arms and one was ripped out and has a literal log jammed in there as a replacement.
-Changelings are not near as important and that makes me sad.
-Strickler and Bular and Angor Rot are not in there and already that just makes me sad.
-The opening of the book is fucking great though 10/10. Also I have to kinkshame Del Toro and Daniel Kraus more.
