I've seen two main theories, that it's Garmelie fucking with them or he's one of the people that bought guns from Ripley (taking Sam's "hired guns" slip as in-character), so I've decided that Garmelie bought guns from Ripley to fuck with them.

 

I love Sam but also what the fuuuuuuuuuuck. I can appreciate the good trolling though! Bets on us actually getting any answers on Tuesday?

Scanlan, upon waking up from his post-death coma, proceeded to lose his shit at the rest of VM for, essentially, not caring about him as a person. Things were said in anger, nobody did anything right, it was a mess. And Scanlan left, with Kaylie, to go have dad adventures. Whether or not he will be returning to VM is unknown. Liam ran across the room and jumped in Sam's lap to hug him because he thought the entire game was ending. It was that kind of fight.

Then the remaining party went to Marquet to give that guy Ripley's hand, and met a...very unique individual. Whom Sam is playing. His name is Taryon Darrington and he's either the worst piece of shit in existence or a interesting new character dynamic or both, depending on who you ask. So far Grog is the only one who likes him because he can make battleaxes out of his rod. Vex already wants to kill him (he called her "little elf girl" like twice) and Vax wants to feed him to Hotis.

On the one hand this show is causing me an unreasonable amount of stress but on the other I still love it and want to catch up (on like ep 54 or something right now). I am a little less stressed because at first I thought it was SAM leaving. I have high hopes for the new character dynamics and I think the character Sam built is genius for the situation (everyone is gonna hate scanlan replacement on principle so why not make a character who is fun to hate).

The only thing is my heart can't take sad endings to found family narratives and this show is giving me a frighten!

 

Welp, I started watching this on a whim on Friday afternoon, just finished episode 4 and am now perseverating like whoa. I mean "can only actually think about the thing and wants to talk about it to everyone I meet including people who I know won't be interested" levels. Help. I love all of these nerds and also the actors who play them.

"In Critical Role" has become a running joke in my house on account of how often I say it, so hard same. I really should get back to watching the backlog...

 

And how often is it accurate? Clearly you need to get the rest of the house to watch the backlog

 

Most of the time, tbh. I mean, I named my fish Brimscythe, I have a Problem. (I might get D to read transcripts, but he has even less free time than I do.)

 

I'm at Episode 6. And perseverating like heck, which is fun. Some thoughts:

• This is wonderful news
• Truly wonderful
• The twins were already my faves before (I have a gigantic soft spot for brother-sister relationships) but now I just. Yes. Good bis.
• So far, while I'm having lots of fun, there's very little fleshing out of the actual characters, mainly because there's been a lot of combat and also because the players seem to talk OOC more than they do IC. Scanlan is the one character whose personality really shines through this early in the series, to great effect.
• I truly can't wait to get to see more of the characters' emotions, their stories, their interactions with each other etc, and get a sense of who they are
• I have A Lot Of Spoilers re: relationships and character development but I'm eager to see it actually HAPEN
• I ALSO can't wait for the video (and... audio?) quality to improve, as I know it does later!
• Generally though, I love all the characters, I love everyone in this bar, and can't wait to have my heart devastated by them all @w@

 

I should also add, on top of my character appreciation, that Matt Mercer is:

• redefining my standards of what a good DM is like
• reminding me exactly why I'm bi

 

I just got to Scanlan killing King Murghol by saying "you should've stood on your head!" and beheading him and I literally can't stop laughing, I was actually physically wheezing, Scanlan gets the best kills (killing a duergar by singing "you ugly, you ugly, yo mama says you ugly" was also incredible)

 

he started DMing specifically because he had a bad DM in high school; spite is the best reason to do anything.

Like, he reminds me a lot of my DM in his movements, his theatrics and his commitment to setting a scene and creating interesting scenarios, NPCs etc, and really valuing IC roleplaying, but also, my DM had a really hard time maintaining a consistent plot and all his scenarious eventually got FUBAR because he a) had a hard time keeping players in check and b) actually held a grudge against one of our players and, instead of sorting that out outside, vented his frustrations IC, which was NOT conductive to a good time.
