I just uploaded the grades for the first Big Project for my class (less than stellar), and now I'm predicting a torrent of email whines. If I could drink alcohol, I'd have some today.

if you have insurance do you have to use it at the doctor's office? asking for a friend who is on family insurance but would like the family to not be alerted about healthcare stuff if possible

If they have it on file, like your regular doctor, they will use it, yes. You may be able to tell them that you need to be self pay at that particular visit because (problems with billing, changing insurance, company is giving you the runaround, etc. - whatever excuse you want) but in general, insurance companies pay faster and more reliably than individuals, even if they pay less, so doctors want to bill them whenever possible. You can go somewhere new and just not disclose your insurance, though.

Edit: if you do go that route, be careful of connected practices - many doctors in my area are affiliated with the local hospital system and share information between practices because they're technically subsidiaries of the same larger healthcare umbrella. When I first went to my ob/gyn, they had me on file because I'd been to the ER they were affiliated with a month or so ago. Also, like Morven said, prices are ridiculous.

no, but then you have to pay the full price charge and that is often deliberately a ripoff, because many medical plans pay out at a percentage of the uninsured patient rate and thus the uninsured patient rate has to be the highest. Definitely talk to your doctor about prices beforehand if you're going that way. You CAN negotiate.

Taking cicada derail out of the food thread, but I actually wasn't aware for a long time of the 17-year cycle? I think we must have several species in my area, or else staggered hatchings/moltings, because Cicada Screaming is just. A yearly event. That's just... summer. It's not summer til ya find a cicada moltshell.

Yeah there's the regular yearly cicadas who are pretty inoffensive but the 10 and 17 year cicadas are basically BUGPOCALYPSE: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO
like, actual drifts of dead bugs along the curbs and the air just THROBBING with insecty shrieks

not much of a fan of those times :/

Of course I saw this after the food thread, but:

I wasn't aware of the cycle either, I never really noticed an ambient noise level change? It might just be that I'm just really used to tuning them out

Iirc, the 17 year cicadas are localized to a specific northeastern area?

I dunno about that but the way it works here is we get normal cicadas every year, hide in the trees and scream, sounds like summer, etc. situation normal, everything is okie-dokie.
then, when the 17-year, 13-year or one of the other year-specific cicadas show up, (there's a few different kinds and they all do different lengths of times so they spread their emergences out around each other pretty well)
    everything is BUG HELL.

What's a good folk ballad tune to steal for a song with eight-syllable lines in an ABCB rhyme scheme? Asking for a friend the song in my signature, lmao

edit: i am bad at syllables, it's .. not eight. it's .. something. it's not very regular.

edit edit: it's in the common meter! :mysterysolved:

edit edit edit: My brain apparently automatically puts any song in the common meter to the tune of "For The Splendour Of Creation." That's not the right kind of tune at all, brain
