"Not gonna ask, then! And probably not going to stop hiding for the time being, if you don't mind."

Bill covers his eye with one of his hands. "Nope!"

    Wilhelm GREETINGS FROM S-411! [18+]

"Appreciate it!" He grins and gives a thumbs up with the hand not covering his eye. He just gave a thumbs up to empty air behind him and should probably have uncovered his eye first.

"Having your hair down is annoying, though." This time he's facing a wall.

You do realize that there does not exist a shelf in my library that this book cannot be found on? This effort is not simply futile, but entirely counterproductive.

Bill cannot see the grin due to having his eye covered and also facing a wall.

"But it just grows back out and that in itself is tedious! I'd keep it down, but... No." He makes a face.

  13. Deirdre of the Lantern

Deirdre of the Lantern The living are not my purview [18+]

(Oversized bowl? What oversized bowl? The bowl Deirdre is holding has about the diameter of her lower arm.)
Greetings, Sawbones. And, did I understand that right, that you encountered walking corpses?
    (She looks a bit hopeful)

(Deirdre visibly startles at Bill addressing her. What an... alien creature.)
    What are-- No, nevermind that.
The Baltreshki, the cultists of the god Baltreshk, are breaking the Circle.
(She gestures to the floating Ring behind her, then folds her items back into whatever pocket dimension she had pulled them from earlier)
When people die, we priests of Tershoet make sure the soul properly passes into the afterlife, and the body returns to the soil. The Baltreshki reanimate them, and somehow...
(Deirdre stops for a moment. It seems these deeds are very upsetting for her.)
break the circle, pull the soul or... or something back. And so the corpses rise again. They have remnant memories, sometimes, but are used for labor or attacking people usually.

He raises a brow at her initial comment, looking down at his body briefly before looking back over at her and dismissing it.
"Cultists, huh?" Bill pauses in thought. He had some to deal with back in his dimension as well, although for something different- and he'd still yet to tell his Ford about it either. He pushes the thought away as he continues. "As far as reanimated corpses go, the situation really seems to vary as far as how to stop them, so I can't give you a definitive answer unless I know more- if they're just shambling mindless sacks of flesh, fire usually does the trick as it destroys the muscle tissue needed for movement." Another brief pause. "Except in the rare case it just ends up with them as shambling mindless skeletal structures instead."

Onyx Prime The passage of time is highly problematic

[When did a 70-foot winged centaur robot appear, and why has no one noticed her until now?] I'd suggest wiping out the Baltreshki along the way-- corpses will just keep happening, so unless you take care of the problem at the source you'll just end up with more reanimated frames. I don't suppose you've thought of putting guards on your Well, or... wherever it is your souls go when they're not in frames?

Deirdre of the Lantern The living are not my purview [18+]

(Deirdre, being blind, does not see the raised eyebrow.)
We can sever the sinews and it helps for a while, until someone rolls by and just knits it back. We can be lucky only a handful know to imbue ashes...

    (Deirdre laughs dryly)
Days like these I find myself being able to follow the decisions Caitriona made six hundred years ago when she massacred the Carcelaina who had been harbouring their roots, but the heads got away. And kept hunting them whenever she came across them.
We've been trying. Too many, or too subtle, and their magic doesn't follow the rules.
The Circle angels have been doing their best for the souls in the Spring (mun note: meaning: source of a river), and the more secure the Spring the less can help with the corpses.
... I know not what the process is with the recently deceased. They act like those who were called back. Sallakar said they never arrived...

  17. Onyx Prime

Onyx Prime The passage of time is highly problematic

I don't suppose your world has volcanoes anywhere? Rather hard to recover remains when they've gone past ash and into individual compounds. Unless the 'return to soil' bit is important for your species...? Though really they'd become soil again eventually, just on the order of billions rather than centuries...

Ah, yes, there are only so many... And only angels can guard the Spring? We set mortals of our own to guard the Well, though atta only knows how Nova managed to ruin that too.

Sparks do not find the Well quickly without guidance-- it's why Mortilus was and now Voidborn is so important. Perhaps it is the same with your Spring? Is there anyone to spare to shepherd the souls, to keep them from being torn away before they have even a moment's rest?

The little princeling evidently grew into his frame, but he has yet to develope the matching maturity.]

From a frame to the Well or a frame to the End is much the same journey-- I'm sure you've noticed for something so bright how incredibly dim sparks can be without processors to help them deal with input.
