I don't go looking for fanfic much but my assumption is that people don't want to impose their WoL's appearance/etc but write something that people can insert their own PC into, I guess...but personally I'd *like* to see how different sorts of people handle being the WoL. I'm actually writing a fic centered around the dark knight quest line and my WoL is only a side character which is kinda a fun self indulgent exercise. (It's mostly about Sidurgu.) Idk if I'll ever post it publicly but I could link it here if people are interested? When it's done I guess. I feel like that whole quest line relies on the WoL having a certain personality type and since Imry is...not that...things would go very differently, and I wanted to explore it. I have noticed that a lot of people don't seem to understand how Aymeric ticks and idgi. He can barely contain his cinnamon roll-ness. He tries so hard to be good at politics but he just....cares so much about people and...I have a lot of feelings about Aymeric. Spoiler: headcanon but dude is painfully pan/poly and just wants to marry like everyone but is also totally oblivious to people having feelings for HIM. /piles Estinien and Lucia and the WoL on top of him
Yeah, I'm the same with wanting to see other people's takes on the WoL. The "literally anyone can insert their OC into the place of the WoL" stories just... really don't work for me. They feel really forced, and it seems especially bad when they just... don't even go far enough to give the WoL a gender? Like, it's not even that they're NB (which would be welcome and is an actual trait), it's literally just "this could be anyone and they have no real traits to speak of, personality or gender or otherwise." It's like they're some sort of amorphous blob just floating through the story without actually having any sort of presence. Give the WoL some traits, authors :( I'd definitely be interested in reading that story! Ironically the dark knight quest line would suit my WoL really well, but... leveling a tank............ ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I'm so easily stressed out in dungeons, haha. I feel like I see a lot of 'Aymeric is tortured by Catholic Guilt' fics and I don't know what's up with them. It doesn't feel like the ones I've read make an effort to combine his actual personality with that at all.
well, there's always Palace of the Dead. (IMHO Dark Knight has one of the best storylines so i try to encourage people to experience it...i may be biased.) Also always happy to give tank advice to people too. Yeah, I feel like making the protag such a blank slate makes them a non-character and it's just...boring? I feel like people are made to feel ashamed about their OCs in this fandom which sucks. You look at like, Dragon Age or Mass Effect and people don't seem to have the same problem. (i wonder if it's because it's choice-heavy? at least they've been adding more "choices" into MSQ even if they're not...affecting much overall.) I...what. Spoiler He believed the truth about Ishgard's history faster than like, LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE. How is that...what. ?????????? I can see him having major PTSD after the Vault but that's different...
Yeah you get the FFX outfits (Tidus or Yuna) if you bought a ticket to the Fanfest Livestreams. Sadly it was like...$25 or something, and I had no character i really wanted it for. The other old FF outfits you might see around are mostly Veteran rewards (you get them for a certain amount of months subscription.)

Yeah. Like... I remember one of the stories took place Spoiler: HW storyline + nsfw fetish mention specifically pre-WoL goes adventuring with Ysaele and pals so it could kinda work; doesn't explain how he's so easily able to drop it later, but maybe it'll be addressed? Then again, iirc that fic was actually 99% about the WoL introducing Aymeric to a balloon fetish and Aymeric subsequently going all catholic guilt about it and confessing to a priest about a gay kiss so... probably not. I also felt like the author thinks the Ishgardian Orthodox Church is a 1:1 allegory of the Catholic Church when it probably isn't, considering the canon pervert-who-wants-to-see-every-adventurer's-muscles-and-probably-bang-them-too Haurchefant is so gung-ho about Halone? That and homosexuality in Eorzea in general isn't a big deal (they just seem to hate those cross-race relationships). I don't know. His personality is all kinds of wrong in that fic, though. Dour, joyless, the opposite of personable... all three flavours that clash with the Aymeric we see in the game, even at his lowest point. Other stories with the same 'Aymeric feels catholic guilt' theme though... yeah. Don't even seem to register that the Church sort of recently went through a huge fucking upheaval, motivated primarily by this one dude being like 'HEY OUR ENTIRE RELIGION IS WRONG' to the evil pope. I don't get it. Maybe they're all unmarked AUs? Also holy crap, now I want to use afgncaap as an alt's name.

Real Money Trading--basically those characters you see that have names that look like someone just mashed their hand against a keyboard, they're usually bots made to farm gil and sell it on illegal websites. (If you see a bunch of identical characters with identical gear with such names standing in one place--probably RMT bots.) Or the ones that stand around in cities and repeat the same ad for their website over and over. You can actually report them by right clicking their name in chat, there is now an option for "report RMT activity".
Real money trading. Those level 1 hyur midlanders with random letter names you see spamming in cities, in other words, haha. Honestly, since I started trying to think about a backstory/personality for my WoL I... suddenly regret making a stupid non-lore compliant name for my dude. I guess it makes sense considering I'm not really someone who has ever been able to RP, and have never really cared too much about my character in WoW, but damn. Regrets. Oh well. The noble Le'pompadour clan is missing one of their dudes, apparently.
I actually named Imry before realizing there was such in depth lore for this game; she's named after an old OC of mine. So i retroactively went "ok uhhhh....her mom named her after a Highlander friend" and dropped $10 on a surname change because I was embarrassed.
@Hobo you could finagle something like "adopted by Elezen" or even "adopted by the Continental Circus"... Idk if you ever did any of the Halloween events but Spoiler: spoilers for those, tho it's pretty obvious most of them are voidsent that glamour themselves to look like Duskwights or Au Ra. They also want to fill this world with darkness but are...hilariously incompetent at it and therefore pretty harmless.

Apparently it was an exclusive fight at one of the FanFests or something? It's. Fun! But be prepared to wipe if dps aren't on top off stuff. Make sure you grab the weekly quest from Idyllshire before running it and you can get a i270 accessory or a pretty cool-looking glamour chestpiece. I'm...excited for the idol outfits...........
I'm so happy they added more options for crystal sands. And lowered the cost of umbrite, to a lesser extent. Thank you dev team. I only feel somewhat tormented by this part of the relic quest now.
My Catgirl is named Meagen Sureshot because she is Meagen Sureshot, an inter-dimensional manifestation of An Adventurer who appears wherever there is Adventure to be had. (This is also why sometimes she makes up odd words like referring to voidsent as "demons".)
