Tbf, dimension and universe-hopping is canon...:p

(I read somewhere that Gilgamesh is the same dude in every FF game and is somehow just travelling thru different alternate universes on his quest to BE THE STRONGEST. I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.)

i'm... thinking of coming back to this. but my main character is on Balmung and i'm not sure if i want to deal with the turbo-populated server and entire lack of housing. Unfortunately that's where most of the ppl i know play but it's like.. eh.. you can't even get an APARTMENT on that server.

are any of the servers you guys play on decently populated but not so populated that any sort of housing is impossible?

Adamantoise (where my main is) or Faerie, I'd say. You're still within Aether Data center so you can cross-world party with Balmung people if you want.

The former used to be med-small and has grown in the past few months but it's still open most of the time, and I'm p sure there are still apartments. (also since i got a house I'll be relinquishing mine probably.) Faerie has a lot of really nice people and I've got some alts there. I haven't looked at the housing situation, though.

Faerie doesn't really have houses available. Like... a medium house went onto the market about a month ago, and my friend mentioned that that's something that only happens extremely rarely... and that when they bring out new houses, you gotta get them within the first couple hours or you're SOL. Apartments are fine, though.

Sadly i think thats true on any server tbh. Apartments are free on a lot of servers, def on adamantoise and faerie, but until the expac drops i wouldnt get my hopes up on a house. they go within the first few days of being free.

yeah, i can't imagine i'll ever get a house, but i'd at least like to get an apartment to myself, and balmung has none :(

another q, if you have an apartment are you also allowed to buy a room in a FC house? i'm a slut for home decorating.

Can confirm you can have a house, FC room and apartment simultaneously. As I have all three.

You can also be a tenant of two other people's houses on top of that.

since proto ultima was advertised as a 24-man *trial* at fanfest, I wouldn't think they would have added it to a raid

there's usually houses open on adamantoise goblet actually, it's the other two where you're unlikely to get one.

    Ohhh.

The only 24-mans are the raids tho, all trials are 8-man, so maybe that's why.

It's a pretty ridiculous fight, fun tho.

Yeah, the impression I was getting was "we're going to try adding this new style of content, 24 man trials." Since there had also been passing talk of them maybe doing an Ozma Savage 24 man trial.

I mean, maybe it didn't work well at fanfest, but. ??? Not what I expected.

I assume it doesn't show up unless everyone in the raid has it unlocked?

nah it simply replaced another group of trash. Everyone gets to fight ultima now.

Nah as far as i understand it shows up every time. But you have to grab the weekly quest beforehand to get anything out of it. So...they kind of upped the difficulty of Dun Scaith overall, since the fight it replaced was honestly a bit of a snoozefest...except all the 24 mans kind of have a "boring midboss" to unwind on between getting your face repeatedly slammed into the ground by mechanics.

Don't get me wrong--I'm personally fine with it and I enjoyed that DS was challenging but rewarding when it came out. It's...other players who test me sometimes.

Let's just say this week involved our alliance's tank screwing up on Scathach (understandable, he'd never tanked the instance before) and someone ragequitting as the healer lb3 was going off, which cost us the LB and wiped the entire raid. Then my co-healer and another dps bailing when we wiped twice on the end boss, and being replaced by a (better) healer and a level 60 thaumaturge. (Yes, you read that right.)

Somehow he did better dps than the person we lost because we cleared it that time.

Edit: I feel like I should clarify--it's the "I'm going to give up and screw everyone over because I'm impatient" mentality that bugs me. Everyone learns the game at a different pace, I make dumb mistakes all the time. I'm totally willing to forgive them as long as the person has a good attitude, but a single bad attitude can drag the whole group down sometimes.

... I can actually see how a thaum could get decent DPS, depending on the build. Since they're not a job they could take damn near every DPS-boosting cooldown that's cross-classable with room to spare, and they wouldn't be reliant on not moving the way a BLM with leylines is.

Mind, I'm not saying they could out-DPS a proper BLM, but I can see how they could be passable.

That ragequitter though. Scream. I would end them.

And yeah bad attitudes are really what make or break the game, that SCH in antitower for example. I still can't believe how petty that was.

ngl the one thing putting a big 'but maybe i shouldn't' in my mind about resubbing is the community as a whole... ppl who say the ff14 community is especially nice are lying thru their teeth in my experience. i already know i can't play the classes super well just because the best openers are convoluted and hard for me to follow, and aside from that the rotations are kind of eh for some classes, and i'm fully anticipating just getting yelled at if i play a dps in any sort of max level content, ugh.

We know the dude came in like that on purpose at least, he said something about wanting to see how well he could dps and we were all like "ok fine, we've been in here an hour let's just get out of here!!"

I think there's a couple things...a lot of people come from WoW which was, to my understanding, -incredibly- toxic and for example female players literally had to pretend to be dudes or they'd be harassed.

I think this game has better GM responses for harassment. I think overall I've had a better community experience than in other mmos. It doesn't mean assholes doesn't exist, though.

If you're not in a static doing cutting edge savage content tho...no one really cares about you having a perfect opener, and if they do they're a jerk. I don't really raid seriously, I guess I'm midcore by definition but my approach to the game is pretty casual. I like learning stuff about optimization but I'm not pursuing it seriously as something I MUST DO. playing a game is supposed to be fun. If you're not having fun...is it really worth it? I dunno. I worry about people who obsess endlessly over DPS numbers because they sure don't seem like they're enjoying themselves. There's a REASON there's no in game parser.

also...this is a cultural thing I think, but the Japanese servers have...a completely different attitude about things. For one thing, Party Finder is for LEARNING content and Duty Finder is where you go for clears. For another thing...they actually kill the adds.

I really dislike this recent attitude of "my dps numbers above all" and the idea that even tanks and healers must be maximizing DPS ALL THE TIME OR ELSE. look...my job is to keep everyone alive. If everyone's dead their DPS is 0.

The devs did say one of their goals for Stormblood was to streamline the battle system so it's less obtuse and will bring up the baseline skill level of a casual player. We'll have to see how that plays out I think.

Tl;dr: I think especially because we've gotten a recent influx of new people thanks to sales, there's a mixed bag. There are a lot of really nice people! There are also plenty of assholes because if any community gets big enough, there will always be assholes. I went through a time of being embarrassed to wear my mentor crown because of them, but then I realized the only way to make a difference was to wear it and keep trying to help people.

I will always extend the invitation for people to play with me and learn stuff in a low pressure environment. If you want to give it a shot for a month and see how you feel on a different server, I'd say it can't hurt to try. If Balmung is your only experience--each server really does have its own microculture.

    (Just don't go to Gilgamesh.)
