"Considering how you're describing her, I'm not surprised there's no information around."

 

"Yeah, that seems like a huge shocker," Alex says, laughing.

 

"So...what was it that spooked you?" Lissa sighs. "Are you all right now?"

 

"Not the first time it's happened somewhere and probably won't be the last!" He shrugs.

"Your husband wouldn't happen to be named Stanford Gleeful, would he?" Bill's expression took on an unusually serious tone.

 

"Gleeful is his middle name," Lissa says, "and we never actually did get married."

 

"Uncle Ford liked living in sin," Mason says, laughing. "Or something like that. He's a pretty big sinner. But also a really good teacher. I was his padawan."

 

For a moment his expression gave way to looking... ill. Terrified. He shakes his head, putting on a smile again. "... For your and everyone else's sake I hope he's not like the instance I've encountered with that name."

"You don't say?" His voice gives way to curiosity, seeming to urge the other to go on.

 

"The Gleefuls are cousins of ours," says Alex. "Gideon's always getting up in our business about this and that. I don't know who's worse, Gideon Gleeful or Pacifica Lalonde."

 

"Be one step ahead of him and make it so his attention is focused away from what you're really doing!"

 

"We all learned magic from my father," says Jezebel. "Gideon is mostly angry that he wasn't talented enough." She scratches her head. "So what did this other version of Dad do? I know my mother was supposed to kill him to prevent some kind of multiversal apocalypse, but she fell in love with him instead, which is...kinda why I'm here. Anyhow, Wendy calls him the Dark Lord, and sometimes he kind of is, but...I guess he has a lot of enemies, so he can't be too careful."

She knows she's making excuses for him, and that he's really not all that good of a person, and that lots of people are justifiably scared of him. And she wishes he wouldn't do some of the things he does, but...he's still her dad. And she knows, for a fact, that some of the things he did probably kept them all alive.

 

"Nobody fucks with this family," says Alex, crossing her arms across her chest.

 

"Except the entire Alternian Empire," Gwendolyn says, discreetly coughing into a handkerchief. "But if Jezebel goes for a run, then the Condesce is gonna find out why we call her father the Dark Lord."

 

The expression returns tenfold with a side of anger, his voice taking on a much darker tone. "He has done things to me and my family that I will never forgive him for and given the chance I would separate him on a mollecular level." Bill's hands were balled up into fists, shaking with rage even at the mention of this man.

 

"Not my lover, you won't," Lissa snaps, but then calms down. "Of course...we're speaking of another person entirely."

 

"He's just a sorcerer," says Mason. "The rest of the multiverse can go to hell for all he cares, but...he is very protective of the people he considers his family. Like everything else that is his."

 

"You and Alex are a little idealistic," Gwendolyn says after a moment. "What exactly does he not think is his?"

 

"I'm hoping so." His nails were digging into his palm so hard they bled, a sparkling, glowing golden substance leaking out. "... What hurt the most is he has Ford's face and voice." He added on quietly. "I think Ford- My Ford- blames himself to a small extent because of that, but... it's not his fault. Though I understand that feeling too well myself!"

 

"I don't know of another Ford, except that there's apparently one who is married to a woman who is called Valiska." Lissa shrugs. "You seemed to recognise Will. But Will didn't seem to know you."

 

"They're probably not the same person. Though they may be alternate universe versions of the same person, like when we had Alexception up in here." Mason grins.

 

"Again, infinite universes, infinite possibilities." He gives a vague shrug, seeming to have calmed back down.

"Exactly!" He claps his hands together and nods with a smile before resting them back down on the cane. "For every universe there's a universe that mirrors that one, and so on and so forth- It gets pretty crazy, to say the least! It's fun!"
