yeah to be fair, a lot of my experience of the ff14 community involves reddit which is... where the garbage of the universe goes to fester for the most part. weirdly, the wow reddit is better than the wow community, but ff14 sticks to the norm of it usually being the worst of people who spend time there. i was considering it also maybe being the server. while balmung is the rp server the fact that it's turbo-high-pop tends to attract even more people looking for an active scene, and even rpers can be weirdly elitist about gaming skill. it's probably not as bad as Gilgamesh, but i still got shit talked in not even max level 4mans bc they weren't going fast enough and i guess the person had a parser running. idk, maybe another server or data group would be better. i also thought about playing on a japanese realm.. tbh my main concern there is latency. it seems like english speaking FCs aren't hard to find at least if i tried it out.
Ahh, I mostly spend time on tumblr, not reddit, but I wouldn't say I'm particularly active in the fandom outside of my friend group really. Now that they have a "check what server the people you just partied with are from" option, I have discovered that 90% of the jerks I run into are from Gilgamesh or Balmung. Mostly Gilgamesh. But I think Balmung is just so huge that it's got a larger portion of jerks overall, yeah. I maintain that if people are going to whine about a levelling dungeon not being a speed run they shouldn't queue into DF. :/ because the max ilvl is so high now it is possible to speedrun 60 dungeons, but people seem to forget how level sync works and expect that to work synced down. Surprise! It doesn't. Anyway, I'm sorry that happened to you. D: I've gotten my fair share of jerks but having people to commiserate with helps I think. And I try to remember all the nice people I've run into as well. Edit: with the new cross server party finder I have actually had some success putting up a recruitment notice that says "laid back run please be chill" for whatever I want to do, which is nice.
If they're being an ass over a parser you get to report the hell out of that, at least. Also bear in mind that duty finder pulls from the entire data center, not just your server, which... means that you will have a chance at getting Those Assholes From Greg Server any time you go in with something other than a full preformed party.
someone in our fc had a tank try to speedrun baby satasha once. I think it was Fort? but they wiped at least once because surprise, keeping aggro when you're a tiny baby tank is actually really hard and most DPS don't have AOE at those levels.
do any of you use the parser? i know it's technically against the rules but it seems like basically everyone does anyway. meanwhile i get turbo anxiety over anything that's even SLIGHTLY rule breaking to the point where i don't think i'll be able to run it without fretting constantly about getting account banned...
Hell no. Evne if I didn't have to worry about "opening literally anything other than discord at the same time as the game is lag spike hell," I fucking hate the idea of parsers. No one in my FC uses one and we are much happier that way. Most people do not use the parser, I would say, it's just that Vocal Minority who really wants to get banner for some reason.
I use the parser because I'm really upset by the idea of me underperforming (plus I'm competitive about it with a friend of mine). Other people's performance I don't care about, with the exception of healers who won't throw a single dps spell and would rather just idle between heals. That said, actually commenting on it is something I won't do, because interacting with people is hard and I'm not particularly good at diplomacy so trying to find nice ways of saying 'you should be dpsing when you don't need to heal' is difficult (especially when I'm busy stabbing things). That, and you run the risk of getting banned for bringing it up. I've always been under the impression that the parser isn't really used outside of people who are doing regular (savage) end game content, and those people are pretty rare.
I don't use one, no. I don't really see the point? It's more stress than I need tbh. I don't do Savage stuff when it comes out anyway. When I do dps I will usually look up the rotation and then just do it to the best of my ability. I can usually get a feel for how well I'm doing by how fast things are dying anyway, but that's usually because @Akiv'a is my co-dps and I know how much they do consistently from running with them so damn much, lol. My main DPS is bard and I only really run monk in low-effort stuff like Crystal Tower or Void Ark because lol...monk opener. But I'm more likely to be tanking or healing. Healer DPS is a big...debate...that gets real ugly real fast. I think it's honestly unfair to expect people to do it in DF because you don't know where they are learning their class. If you're in a static tho, I assume it's expected? But ultimately i think the issue is people try to posit it as "Healer must DPS all the time!!" vs. "Healer never has to DPS!" and it's...completely situational. Like, I hardly have time to throw out DoTs in Dun Scaith most of the time because people are always. Dying. And I need my mp.
I have one, but 99% of the time it's not open. I'd also never use it as a means to kick someone. Officially: NO PARSER HERE. NONE AT ALL. NOPE. THAT SHITS ILLEGAL <____< >_____>
I know for a fact that savage peeps will often just have their parser up, that its almost a requirement. I asked once which parser someone was using cuz i saw it on their screen. Their response on twitch stream was "I'm not using a parser, but if I WAS using a parser it would be ACT. But thats only an uneducated suggestion because as you can see im not using one". people often joke about it that way because its... bannable. lol. Otherwise its just... way too much stress for everyone involved. There's no reason to maximize DPS in a dungeon that gets steamrolled as long as 1 of the 2 DPS knows what they are kind of doing.
Also when I came across the phrase "honest tank" in a discussion about healer DPS once I nearly screamed out loud. ("Honest" meaning "just sticks to role and does not do dps as in "honest healer".) Apparently it means "tank that won't drop tank stance for extra DPS" and I'm like. No. GO AWAY. I AM A PALADIN, NOT A WAR. I'll switch to Sword Oath as off tank obviously or during pure DPS phases like Bismarck's corona but like. Are you honestly expecting me to hold aggro off an equal ilvl SMN with Paladin dps, it ain't happening. Aki still pulls off me IN TANK STANCE. Also I only rarely do it as DRK because bad experiences with DRKs folding like wet paper the moment they drop Grit and having to heal their asses through it. Baelsar's Wall is Paladin Hell and a big reason I haven't been doing much ex roulette lately...:/ (we got a paladin once in 50 roulette who insisted on doing the whole thing in Sword Oath for MAX DEEPS and it was. terrible.)
Yeah, like... for me, I don't really get concerned about no healer DPS in 8 or 24 people pugs? To me, there's just a lot more going on and not really knowing if you can rely on the other healer/s and all that, so that doesn't really get to me. Or even in lower level groups (like pre-50), since, like you said, people are learning. But I am bothered by people who are queuing for expert roulette, only healing every 5-10 seconds and just... standing there between heals. Not a care in the world, it looks like. Like it's not a huge deal since hey, easy duty, unless the DPS are really bad it doesn't make a huge difference, but it just feels like... why wouldn't you want to be spending that time in between heals doing something? Some people have to heal constantly and don't have time to DPS which is fine (I had a group like that last night, tank mass pulling and refusing to use any cooldowns, that poor fucking healer), but it seems like if you have the opportunity to do it and just stand there instead, it's sorta like... why?
Ah, I see what you're saying. I don't really get it either, tho it depends on the healer--WHM and SCH have more downtime to DPS, i think. wheras AST feels more hands on for me, but I'm also putting out buffs and debuffing the enemy etc so I'm doing other stuff. WHM can just slap a regen on the tank and go to town with Stone 3. I did notice the new dungeons have a lot of unavoidable dmg going out and I'm assuming that's to give healers something to do. (which is why i luv Paladin utility) But if I want to turn my brain off I'm...not going to queue for Ex Rou. o_o ...nothing beats the dude we had in the Aery once who kept putting Regen on me before pulls so everything would swarm him and nearly let me die every single pull, just standing there doing nothing, and when I questioned if he was inebriated his response was "I'm watching calligraphy videos."
the only thing i don't like about healer-dpsing in FF14 is having to juggle cleric stance. for some reason i have a hard time remembering to turn it on and off.
nai also getting to be op, plz nerf The other thing with healer dps in baby dungeons is that I don't do it on my sch because... I will rip off the tank lol, unless the tank is similarly overgeared. And I'm only in mostly ironworks on my sch. Low level tanks just don't hold aggro that well
dear tanks: if there is something on your healer, at least pretend you're going to try to get it off instead of literally RUNNING ON TO THE NEXT GROUP OF MOBS
welp i resubbed and rolled some alts places... then realized i don't really know the best way to 'test out' a community without leveling enough to get into any dungeons.. joining a random FC...something. lol.
Spoiler: sylphbtquests VOYCE IS A FUCKING PRICK. Wow. That was definitely not the ending to the Sylph questline that I was expecting. What a colossal dickweed.
PROBABILITY IS A SHITHEAD. Guhhhh. Leveling gathering is pretty frustrating sometimes :( Spent a straight hour doing it, 77% became 50% and 83% became 98%. And let's not even talk about HQ rates which go all over the damn place. I don't bother using unearth 2 anymore because fuck that skill LIES. Also I think I worked out why the post Nidhogg cinematic (3.3) bothered me so much (beyond me thinking it's fucking cheesy as hell and feeling the sting of the idiot ball). Spoiler: discussion of that cinematic It's because of the lore, but in particular the shit mentioned in this FATE: I'm guessing they weren't trying to go for this, but it genuinely seems to imply that neither Haurchefant nor Ysayle are resting peacefully in the Lifestream, but that they're basically stuck as spooky ghosts cursed to wander Hydaelyn until someone kicks their arses into a second death. That's fucked up. This is why I headcanon that moment as a shared hallucination between the WoL and Alphinaud, because... ugh. Let the dead sleep, god dammit.
