like im sure that the book steve [i still havent read it weh] would have lended it to people who both read and watched, but the show is so off-kilter from the source material [much like the book httyd and the movies/show] that i don't think it would be a credible source.

 

i think that's probably just an easter egg. would have been fun but i think is totally not credible as a theory. i mean he did kinda get slammed in the face with a gaggletack as you said

i think a big lend to it is the fact that it's only one white [human] troll vs all the black ones that's the strongest smack in the face. everything else is super subtle.

 

... oh man. that's really fascinating. if deya was a changeling, then the attitude towards them at the time of the show is Something.

OKAY BUT THEN THAT BEGS THE QUESTION

how long were gumm-gumms making changlings? if deya is a changling, then this has been going on before they were sealed at the battle of killahead. i was under the impression this happened after, because changlings were used as spies while everyone was banished and couldn't get out. the battle of killahead bridge was centuries old, bular mentioned as much when he monologued about his all great and powerful father!!!

and if that's the case: why keep AAARRRGGHH!!! a troll? wouldn't making him a changling be more beneficial to gunmar? who was picked for underling work, who was picked for gumm-gumm transformation?

gumm-gumms eat humans, that's the key difference between them and other trolls, but changlings often make mention of eating humans too [maybe it's just nomura who needs to be kinkshamed harder], so what the heck.

 

yeah there's a fuckton of worldbuilding that we're not seeing and a lot of questions and just... fuck idk?

i'm not entirely sure, but i have a feeling changelings are picked because they seem to be smaller and more human sized troll... types? species? krubera are pretty big trolls, it would be kinda obvious that aaarrrgghh would be a big troll which would make him a good berserker or something

 

i'd consider that an answer if it weren't for the dentist's assistant. She's average troll-sized [female and thus shorter than blinky but not by much], and she was pretty heavyset in her human disguise as well.

vague general wave to otto and the airline ticket taker or whatever, too. They both have stockier-than-twig builds, but of course at that point i'm splitting hairs, especially because we don't know what those two look like in troll form [and won't see the airline attendant again anyway].

NotEnrique is the worst for trying to discern, since he's top-heavy but also baby sized.

man. we know very little about the gumm-gumms and that makes me sad. i wanna know more about troll cultures in general, but especially the gumm-gumms. shit probably got real weird after they got locked in the darklands for centuries

 

(a thing i realized, btw: argante/baba yaga tells angor rot, in 1297, to 'bring death to [merlin's] trollhunters,' so if deya was the first trollhunter and also the one who took out gunmar, the battle of killahead bridge would've been a LONG time ago, hot damn)

things i want in season 2:

• more fukken troll models so we don't get copy/paste of the same character over and over and have to make shit up ourselves

 

(unless back then she wasn't the only trollhunter???? this has Interesting Implications for the emphasis in both the title and the first arc climax on 'trollhunters')

 

oh yeah tench mentioned it'd be neat if deya was a changling and toby was her[?] descendant? and jim was merlin's descendant.
