mildly unrelated but i was watching justice league today and it was really jarring to hear robin's voice come out of a villain's mouth
Oh my god that entire episode was surreal but also I appreciate them doing that as a joke, like, I love that kind of thing. The entire team as villains.
I was surprised that TT never had the episode where they went to some alternate universe where the titans were evil, that's such a classic superhero trope
At least it was covered in the comics I guess. Though it was less an alternate universe than it was an alaternate future they got stuck in for a time. Had to deal with things like the Titans continued issue with traitors in their ranks, some shit with Doctor Light, and if I remember right we killed Batman? Batman was definitely dead as shit though and the Robin at the head of the Titans at that time had taken up his role. Everyone was fucking terrified of Batman and his crew. They killed fucking Duela Dent. What the fuck.
Duela Dent for the unaware being Two Face's daughter. Former member of the Suicide Squad, the Titans, and Titans east. Claimed to be the daughter of several supervillains, with the Joker being the first and most prominent. Kitten's rush of villainy in the comic based on the show was inspired by her. Basically she went on a spree of claiming to be the daughter of various villains from the show and committing crimes as these supposed daughters.
I can believe robin would straight up murder someone if bats was gone I always thought duela was kind of annoying
Beast Boy meanwhile gave up on being a person at all and just took to being a bloodthirsty beast. He spent time insulting his younger self for trying to keep up the ruse of being a person and trying to get people to accept him. Was fun.
Ok but the comics sequel to the cartoon (called teen titans go, but unrelated to the TTGo cartoon) DID have them meet evil titans. It was an issue dealing with the backstory of killowat, who shows up for approximately 30 seconds in the show. He's actually from a parallel universe. Raven tried to send him back, but missed, so he ended up in a universe with the Teen Tyrants (not tim!mohawk!Red Robin, mullet!Arsenal, undercut!Tempest, and doubleagent!Blackfire - led by Red Raven) who are opposed by the Brotherhood of Justice. In the end they get him sent back to to the right universe though.
Also hey I lied it was my heart that got crushed. Almost cried. Again. Fuck this show's ability to make me feel things.
When Slade hissed "That's nothing compared to what I'm going to do to you," and the scene just cut to black, the hair on my neck stood straight up. I will never not believe that they weren't trying to imply rape, as much as they could in a kid's show. Poor Terra D:
also i just rewatched that specific bit and fuck i forgot how right you were, like, i genuinely feel kind of sick now, wow.
i mean. slade is one of the big defining parts of the show. (also, again: SLADE HAS TWO KIDS AND I'M WORRIED ABOUT BOTH OF THEM.)
