Spoiler Have to admit, I was suspicious of Navy from the beginning given the framing, but I 100% knew what was coming the moment she mentioned the ship. Kind of hilarious! I laughed at her vindictiveness at any rate. Also Lapis, infinitely relatable as always. Though I think my major frustration was just Navy's whole happy/clueless schtick, which works well when she's in a set but becomes obnoxious when she's a major character. I hate characters like that because I can't stand people being happy, apparently.
Spoiler Well, looks like I'm going to need to put up with Peridot and lapis being weird again... oh well. 'all of them' dawwwww ...holy shit ok. wait this is surprising for GARNET?? ....oh god and steven still hasn't learned his lesson about 'hey maybe you shouldn't arbitrarily decide people have to live together and be friends just because you think it'd be neat, they also get a choice in the matter, in fact they get the ONLY choices in the matter.' ....ughhhhhhhhhhhh. so i just pretend barn mates never happened or????? .....so what's the catch? wow peridot paying attention to what lapis hates, that's a change... wait how do they not know what dirt is. ....the faces are weird this episode. like. it works for ruby but not really for Lapis. what the hell is wrong with peridot's hair. actually lapis' hair is weird too. ......ok what WELL OK THEN. also this isn't really a threat.... like. OH MY GOD GARNET
Spoiler: RIGHT I was getting so upset on Lapis' behalf because she's been struggling and working at things, and Navy's apparent cheerful ease with everything just made the struggle seem that much more. The oujo laughter was a delightful touch. As was Garnet's balloons, which implies she saw possible paths where Navy didn't get the ship or chose to stay or somesuch. Yeaaaaahhhhhhh I am not a fan of his way of bringing the new roommates over as his introduction to the "hey guys are you willing to have a roomie??" question. At least call ahead, kiddo. Doing it this way means that they might feel uncomfortable and guilty about saying no to the person's face, and override voicing their discomfort. Hell, that's kinda what Navy shot for, there. Pushed Lapis to discomfort, went all wide-eyed golly shucks I could just leave, and then raised the idea of her ship so they'd feel super relieved at the idea of getting her a place she'd like better... so that they rushed along to getting in without thinking of the risks of it.
ehehe Spoiler Rubies aren't THAT dumb :P I'm wondering slightly if it's a conservation of ninjitsu thing? Like five rubies are dumber than one thinking on their own? Also I'm a little worried about Navy zipping back to the Diamonds with a full status report now - once she'd picked up her squad-sisters, ofc.
I really liked the episode! Spoiler Glad it ended up the way it did, because Navy just joining the squad with no development needed would have been too easy and impromptu, and I'm glad they gave her a bit more depth beyond the clueless schtick! (If she had become a Crystal Gem with that happy-go-lucky mode being genuine then that'd've gotten old fast. So yes! Definitely the best way for that episode to end. And now the Rubies have their ship back. Great episode! :D
My thoughts on the episode. Spoiler One minute into the episode- okay, what's wrong with her? Three minutes into the episode- Lapis has a point, people. Wait, I know I should've brought this up regarding Peridot, but why don't the homeworld gems know what weather is? Do their planets not have atmospheres? Or plants? Ten minutes into the episode- ah, there it is.
Spoiler I think in the episode Navy said that Homeworld's weather was always sunny (or implied it, at least)
Spoiler I mean, Gems don't need to breathe, and I think we see them talk in the vacuum of space, so they actually might not have an atmosphere around their planet.
Also spoilers regarding Lapis. Spoiler I feel... something about Lapis' problems with Navy. The fact that Navy was so happy and friendly and was just rolling with everything was off-putting for her. The fact that she wasn't acting upset at all about what the gems had done to her was suspicious. And I just... understand that, or something. It's the thought of "wait, what do you mean you aren't mad?" I feel that when I so much as mildly inconvenience someone. On top of the jealousy of someone progressing faster and more smoothly than you did, in this case in terms of adjusting to a new home.
