@jashindamnit im p sure if your romancing gar at some point tali (I think drunk tali) hints that she'd be down for a threesome. Sooooo. There's that.

But as much as I like shakarian, Kaidan is the only one for my Shep.

i finished me3. i chose the destroy ending. and i cried.

OK SO BEFORE THE DESTROY ENDING IT WAS SO FUCKING COOL SEEING ALL THE FLEETS COME THROUGH THE RELAY??? LIKE.... I WAS JUST IN AWE. IT WAS INCREDIBLE SEEING ALL THESE SHIPS TOGETHER TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE REAPERS IT MADE ME HAVE CHILLS. like we did this. we all did this. we're all working together. it felt So Good.

fucking saying goodbye to garrus on the normandy and that pain in shepard's voice when she tells him that no matter what she'll love him and he says he loves her too and i cried i fucking cried im a lil baby i sobbed

ALSO FUCK THE ILLUSIVE MAN I KILLED HIM. idk if its possible to save anderson???? is it??? I DONT KNOW BUT WHEN HE FINALLY DIED AFTER TELLING SHEPARD HOW PROUD HE WAS I CRIED SOME MORE!!!!!! I CRIED A LOT!!!

making a decision was hard though. like really hard. my shipper heart wanted the possibility of shepard living ( that breath at the end just... cries please find her ) because i want garrus and shepard to be happy. seeing him with her name on that plaque to put up on the thing just made me go "YOU WILL FIND HER GARRUS YOU WILL BE HAPPY"

but i feel Really Sad about the destroy ending too if only because... losing all the synthetics really fucking sucks. i loved the geth. having them finally be able to be sentient and live their life was something i was really happy about for them. EDI telling you that she felt "Alive" thanks to you and just... i feel so so bad for it. its like destroy ending: shepard lives ( ? ) > lose all synthetics > technology is hecked.

control ending: shepard dies > reapers help rebuild > BUT SHEPARD DIES I AINT ABOUT THAT LIFE

same with the synthesis ending. like idk how i felt about potentially altering everyone's dna. also shepard dies.

all in all i'm.... satisfied??? maybe? i dont' know. i already knew the endings because it's been years so i knew what i was expecting. i WISH there was a DLC for after the game, just to see what's going on after, just to see what happens if you pick the destroy ending. do they find shepard??? are the relays ever fixed? how goes rebuilding everything??? I WANT TO KNOW.... i mean sure that person telling stories of shepard was great and all i guess but i want to see shepard living out the rest of her life happy with garrus ( or whatever li ppl chose ) and everyone working together and moving on and MAYBE FINDING OUT HOW TO BRING THE GETH BACK BECAUSE I MISS THEM I AM SO SORRY...

time to splurge on garrus/shepard fics.... if anyone has any recommendations pls gimme... ive already read everything by you @Kaylotta so if u have any recs hmu,,,,

I picked Synthesis because hell naw I'm killing the Geth and EDI, and Control freaks me out a LOT, and my Joan got into that beam knowing and accepting she was going to die. But having to watch Kaidan be all sad and grieving that she died again and being all twice-widower fucks me up, so half the time I just imagine that shep got Uploaded To The Cloud and then the gang finds her a while later an EDI helps her find a robot body and adapt to being a hybrid, the organic-machine integration is a little less deus ex machina, and all is mostly well.

The other half of the time I just imagine Kaidan and Grandma Shepard being sad roommates and playing Shepard's vlogs to cope

that's a good point! like it' sjust because i.. couldn't stand seeing garrus sad. i don't want him sad. i want him to have things go right for once. for him to be happy. and loved. and with shepard.. so i chose the ending that might allow me to do that. BUT KILLING THE GETH AND EDI JUST REALLY FUCKED ME UP... I MISS THEM A LOT.

i already made my decision but i'll play around w different ending ideas for shep and stuff. the whole "cloud" thing and shepard being put into a body sounds interesting as heck. also makes a lot of funny "calibration" jokes for garrus which pleases me.

Yeah I totally get it!! I don't think there's one right or wrong ending, it all depends on what your playstyle is and what you want out of the game and everything. Like I went full paragon and got the quarians and the Geth all singing kumbaya together, and that was a lot of effort >: but half of the fun of BW games imho is seeing how everyone thinks their ending is and all the stuff that can be built around it. And idk. I just really like talking about my shep

Also I am a drama whore and grieving fics are my secret addiction

But I feel you on the "I just want these people to be happy" front. Everyone got the short end of the stick in this game

    i didn't have the option to save both the quarians and the geth. ;;; but i saved the geth if only because i... felt so bad for them. very very bad for them. i also like.. just the hope of them finding shep in the wrecks of the citadel and saving her and even if it takes a long time for shep to recover i just want happiness... ;;

i mean on one hand not everything has to have a happy ending, but... like garrus said. "you humans want to save everyone." sobsobs.

Yeah :( I really just want shep to be happy with her crew. It's a weird feeling because I feel strongly towards both OH MY GOD I JUST WANT THEM TO BE HAPY and the general depressing bleak hopeless mood of the game.

Actually I really dislike how the ending was presented - I think you could have integrated the choices on the whole trilogy by, like, after Shepard's lil "what do you need me to do?" we see them slumping against the control where they press one last button, letting out their last breath (or not). And then the ending plays out like this: if your readiness score was too low, you still lose the war; if it's mid, you win with heavy losses because the war dragged on, and if it's high you win while still saving a lot of people. If you lean Paragon, the button makes (some/all of) the reapers stop; if you lean Paragon AND ALSO made peace between synth and orgs, you get a Synthesis ending where the knowledge of the Reapers plus the AI capabilities allow integration between the two in the future; if you lean Renegade the Reapers are destroyed and eventually AIs and organics get into conflict again. Shepard survivability would depend on how many loyalty missions you did and how many people survived; the idea is that their friends made an effort to save Shepard, because they loved him/her. So if you didn't complete any loyalty missions you get a funeral/honoring scene, if you made a lot of them you get the crewmates you were closest to finding you in that citadel room just in the brink of time to save your life, and if it's somewhere in the middle or a lot of people died in the suicide mission in ME2 it's a coin toss or something.

My shep had spent the whole three games (especially three) saying that synthetics are real people so like hell she was going to commit genocide. Similarly, she knew that the only reason they got that far was because of the diversity in their fight (see why the Protheans ended up losing). That just left. Control. I don't have what happens in the extended cut as my canon tho. The first thing Grace does as Space God is destroy the fucking Reapers. Because that was her driving motivation the whole time, and so her uploaded brain is still going to prioritize that.

The problem is that suddenly gaining god-like powers and knowledge really fucks with a human brain and soul, so it takes her a while to sort of...find herself again (my many replays of the trilogy are her reliving the events to try and remember exactly who she was). She's never really able to integrate with society again, but she becomes sort of a guardian angel to her crew. They (mostly Garrus and Kaidan) can sort of feel that they're around. I'm not sure exactly how much contact with them she has. It varies on my mood. But after they die, Grace stays around for a bit, but eventually heads to Andromeda to see what they're up to. After she doesn't have any real ties to people, she just tends to wander the universe exploring, meeting people, and helping people--sort of like a non-time travelling version of The Doctor.

I don't see ME3 as bleak. Yes, things are terrible and the chances of victory are pretty slim, but nearly everyone you encounter goes out of their way to be good to each other, to help each other, and support each other. The tragedy overwhelmingly brings out the best in people.

@witchknights I really disagree with your ideal ending.
I like that Shepard has sort of the final say and they have options that can all be justified for all alignments. (paragon choosing destroy, renegade going control etc.) I like your options for low-mid-high readiness though. My alternate ending would include the same choices, but instead of Star Child giving you the options, it's EDI. And your relationship with her and your choices regarding the synth/organic conflict effect how she feels about each option.

So for destroy: if you achieved peace with the Geth, got her together with Joker, she will call you a hypocrite and unless you can make a super high paragon check, she will die feeling utterly betrayed by Shepard. If you make the paragon check, Shepard says that they truly believe things will be different this time, and the world is ready to be shared between organics and future synthetics. EDI reluctantly agrees to the sacrifice for the future synthetics. If you have shown favor towards organics and treated her like a machine, her comments will be more like, many people are willing to die to stop the Reapers, so let it be the synthetics who make the sacrifice.

For control: All Shepards express anxiety about this choice except particularly ruthless renegades. For a Paragon aligned shep who brokered peace and treated EDI as a person, EDI tells them that she believes in Shepard. More ruthless renegades and those who favored organics, she will try to talk out of the choice. High paragon will ascend and destroy the reapers. High renegade will become an active, commanding force in the galaxy. Those in between won't destroy the reapers, but retreat with them, appearing every once in a while to do things like fix relays.

For synthesis: EDI expresses a mix of intrigue and also reservations about this option, regardless of what Shepard is like. If she was encouraged to be more human, her concern about affecting people without their consent wins out, but she can be convinced with either a paragon or a renegade check. If she was treated like a machine, she says that she wants to be properly alive and encourages this option.

About happy endings... I think why one of the reasons why I dislike most happy endings (personal taste, not a judgement on others) in ME is because I think it takes away from the impact of your choice at the end. I think Laura Dale sums it up really nicely in her article: https://laurakbuzz.com/2015/09/22/mass-effect-3-some-things-are-inevitable/
The tl;dr is that you as Shepard are making a choice that you know (or at least think you know) you won't see the results of. It's a decision you make in the dark, with no one watching, and everything comes down to your moral convictions. Mass Effect has been leading up to this the whole trilogy, with it becoming clear that the way you do things and the reasons behind them matter. And this choice then becomes not about results, because Shepard with (probably) never see those results. It's about you. How you choose to justify your answer--not to others, but to yourself.

I actually loved the endings to mass effect three. I always choose synthesis, and given the way I play the games, it just felt right, like how the story was supposed to flow. Depending on your actions in the game the other endings will feel more or less correct depending on how hard towards paragon or renegade you leaned with each outcome.

So like two years ago I managed to get off my ass and buy the DLC for 3 because I played it and beat it like three times when it FIRST CAME OUT and burnt out.

But I decided to do another full trilogy run with a fresh character and got burnt out about 2/3rds through the second game, ofc.

Picked it back up from there a few days ago. Beat it last night. Playing 3 now. Have to beat 3 before I play Andromeda because silly brain rules.

Finally romanced Garrus. They're hilariously awkward together, but I like it. They're both trying to hold onto each other, Garrus is trying to hard to do it Right

I keep writing bits in my head (probably because haven't slept in two days), mostly just character interactions and musings because I have no plot and don't want to do the 'rehash trilogy' thing, plus don't have the attention span for a fic. And they'd be like. Three paragraphs written. I just can't not multitask rn because sleep dep mania.

If I wanted to dump little bits of unedited insomnia writing about my Shepard and crew where would I put that?

I definitely do this too. I usually just post them on tumbles and there's a link to my ME fic tag at the top of my blog. Alternatively or additionally you can make a fic on AO3 that's a collection for your shorts. I guess it also depends on how long these are? I collect my ME ficlets together in one place because they're all short, 1.5 k at most. I also have FO4 fics that are similar (character interactions that don't happen in game), but tend to be longer and I have them as different stories all labeled under one series.

I meant around here because unedited insomnia bits being visible to the Wide World is Nope. (Also I don't have an AO3 and dropped Tumblr) but that would be helpful!

Im so excited for an excuse to play the trilogy again all over. I’m wondering what changes they’re gonna make to te gameplay (I get the impression story changes will be minimal). I like the combat in me3 pretty well but I also wouldn’t complain if they lifted a lot from mea.

I already had plans to build a new pc inbred next few months, but this makes me extra excited.

i mostly just want some quality of life changes for me1 to make that game less of a slog to get through in terms of gameplay. but yeah, same, i am so excited for an excuse to play through the trilogy again. also, from the bungie blog about this:

    :psyduck:

BioWare are you really gonna un-canonize a shit load of people’s endings? Don’t. Don’t. Please. There were so many threads in andromeda to pick up, even if they wanted to leave behind Ryder and start a new protagonist fresh.

Guess what guys, me1 is actually playable in the remaster! Maybe not good, but playable!

Wonky combat aside, it's so good to play this series again all the way through. While I always sort of have one foot in Mass Effect hell, I Am In Deep Now. I've been having a ton of fun writing side scenes/expanded scenes, and hey, maybe there'll be enough of a resurgence in the ME fandom to actually have readers. I can dream.

I just put up a new chapter in my oneshot collection:

    https://archiveofourown.org/works/26582188/chapters/65178733
    Title: Full Contact Bonding
Fandom: Mass Effect Trilogy, Mass Effect - All Media Types
    Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Characters: Female Shepard (Mass Effect), Ashley Williams, Kaidan Alenko, Garrus Vakarian, Urdnot Wrex
Additional Tags: Part of a One-Shot Collection, Team bonding through punching, blood

Summary: A scene that takes place early in ME1, when everyone is still getting to know each other.
