JFC, the face Varric makes before he asks why Anders would give up his last connection to his mother. That is the face of a man who knows a prelude to a suicide attempt when he hears it. And it breaks my heart that Anders hesitates for a second, like his resolve wavers, before he tells Varric that he's been a good friend. Past tense, been. GDI, Thedas's tragic lack of mental health services. GDI, Anders, you terrible disaster boy, you had a billion chances to turn back.

I commented to Blue on Discord at the start of this that Anders' discordant cheerfulness was very "suicidal person who just made an actual plan" and she quoted that back at me when she posted that batch of screencaps.

Yes exactly, Hawke going "I hear what you're saying, but have you considered trying my magic healing cock" wouldn't be as out of left field, with some of the other flirt options. Abrupt and badly timed for most people, but.

Am I the only one wondering why the hell Cullen asked Hawke, a known friend of Aveline's who will definitely not be neutral, to get involved in this?

 

I'm trying to find a screenshot of the time Cullen says "Mages aren't people like you and me" to Hawke, and can't find it, so: I just want to point out that Cullen has a history of being way too trusting of Hawke for no apparent reason :P
