Salted Earth DISOWNING DOESN'T STACK, ASSHOLE

I haven't managed to read through this thread yet, so sorry if it's already been said, but on a purely mechanical level: is it possible to show whether you have liked/witnessed/etc a thread personally? I have horrible memory so 'You liked this post.' was a really good reminder for me, and with this system I'm finding myself getting confused as to whether I've reacted yet. (I can just click through, of course, but it's more of a disruption than just glancing down to the corner of the post.)

I'd still get a positive feeling from receiving autohugs. Maybe not as strong, but sometimes making an entire post to offer hugs is just not going to reasonably happen.

@Salted Earth For me, if I've already rated a post, it shows "undo rating" in the corner rather than giving me the options to rate it - is that helpful to you, or would it have to be more explicit?

@Salted Earth, as far as I see, the reaction options disappear when you've reacted.

Oh, I see! I don't know if I missed that before, but yes, that does help. Thank you!

I guess the title fits then, for me it is the same except clicking a button costs less spoons.

Now that I've caught up with the thread (it's moving a lot more slowly than I feared!), I agree that hugs, as an option, makes me a bit uncomfortable. Sometimes I have trouble with e-contact from non-close friends, because my scrupulosity goes wild about it. I can definitely foresee situations where people 'hugging' one of my personal posts would have more of a negative effect than a positive one. I'm not gonna be too put out if hugs stays there, but I think that renaming it to 'comfort' or something would be easier on my brain. (And I think that for pictures of animals, 'like' is a good option.)

I..enjoyed the ambiguity of 'like'. It was positivity, either people reacting positively to your post, or saying 'yeah me to', or 'I get you' or 'that's interesting'--whichever interpretation my brain was more comfortable with.
Is 'informative' and 'useful' going to be nicer for the people that receive those status' on their posts? What if your infodump gets likes but not 'informative' or 'useful', what would that mean?.. There are so many more ways a gambit/post can fail with this new rating system.

"Funny", "Informative' and 'Useful' seem more appropriate on someone's personal tagging system, where they can find posts with those tags later for reference.

It would make more sense if the status' stick to reactions rather then tag a post with additional information. Funny could be 'laughs' or lol, not sure how useful/informative would translate as a reaction.

Did the alerts just get more specific about which reaction you received? I appreciate this change. Thank you!

I will say I would like a 'relatable' button, the more I think about it. Like can convey this but sometimes things just... "Same hat" or "relatable" are the only responses I have for certain things.

Like say someone posted "All I've had to eat is mushroom slices today" I really don't want to witness them, agree, like, or anything we have? Relatable would be great though because "Yeah me too" or 'Same hat'

So I'm a little wary of getting super deep into trying to avoid overlap or cover everything. I mostly just wanted a thing slightly better than "either you're expressing approval of a thing that happened, or you're using words, or you're not reacting". I could drop a couple of the things as being unnecessary, maybe? But not sure.

I'm mostly just going to stick with like as my default reaction, meaning the same ambiguous thing as it's done in the past. If I have more spoons and, I might expand out into the other options, but like is still a safe, ambiguous-but-hopefully-easy-to-interpret-from-context reaction to any number of situations.

(but vague +1 on not really caring for hug. In practice, I don't think it will upset me, but I don't generally like getting unexpectedly touched, and that's... kind of the thing it conveys. Witnessed seems to cover very similar emotional territory and doesn't leave a window for (not-actually-happening-but-still) being touched)

Yeah, I think that could cause a lot of overthinking.
Personally, I think Like, Agree, Witnessed, and #relatable would cover most bases. I'm not even sure if Agree is necessary because Like covers it pretty well. I don't have any strong feelings on Hugs either way, so I'm not sure what to do with that.

Also, something something we should totally steal Kiwifarms Autistic rating.

I kind of want rating that is sort of like 'Witnessed', but for minor not-too-serious inconveniences, but I guess "Like" pretty much covers that.
