Well obviously there are exceptions. I'm not really a lawyer, so I don't really know what sentence would be given? But it definitely wouldn't be life. I'm pretty sure there are procedures in the law for people who were brainwashed. From my personal experience as long as the brainwash-ee gets the right help to becoming un-brainwashed, then there's no jail time.

But if they end up still doing the criminal acts after the help then, obviously depending on age, they'd be put in jail. For instance Harley! She's brainwashed and abused by the Joker, but no matter how many times we try and help her she still goes back to him. She's been in jail for her crimes before - obviously she's still gotten help, but it never works. Really it's just a case by case basis...?

I guess if you want people to listen to you try and earn their trust or respect? That's what we had to do, and even now some police officers still try to take us in. Really I'm not that good at this stuff - Batman's more, uh, eloquent than me (which is surprising since he's not much of a conversationalist).
