Is that sarcasm? I honestly can't tell, so I'm going to respond to it as though it's a genuine suggestion.

That has a lot of potential to go wrong, since I know for a fact that I'm not the only one that reads it in a sarcastic, 'Sure, Jan' way.

Giving someone the chance to be openly dismissive of a post, without the necessity to explain what they are dismissing and why, is opening the doors to vulnerable people having this function being used against them. And even when they do make a post to point out the 'okay' part, they're accused of trolling. Or is that not, essentially, what Anonymous does? And considering they take the time to actually make the post, imagine what a drive-by 'Okay' would be like.

There are multiple users on this site that I have observed using the 'like' function to harass others, so giving them a rather negative-but-phrased-as-neutral button to hit? I'm not okay with that.

Unless this is the look you're going for. In which case, godspeed.

Yeah, I intended "Okay" as meaning "Acknowledged" or something like that, but I can see how it can be dismissive.

I have this problem that I'm a computer geek, so I have the protocol of saying "ping" and expecting someone to say "ack". And if someone says "hey seebs" I tend to say "ack".

Problem: Non-computer people interpret "ack" as a noise of distress or disgust, and so do some computer people.

Otherwise "ack" would likely be one of the buttons I'd want.

And I concur that "okay" will tend to be interpreted as roughly "that sounds fake but okay".

What does "winner" mean exactly, it seems sort of redundant and nonspecific meaning wise. There are other indicators of approval, and it's not like you can win a post, really. Also it might inadvertently convey a "this is a competition and this person has been Chosen by others over you" vibe? Idk tho, I might be utterly overthinking this

I've seen winner used a lot in the thread for productive things that people accomplished. I think it's kinda nice.

i think it is for when the others feel insufficient to describe how awesome you think a post is. like, posts liked with the other options are Normal Good and the ones you rate winner are Extra Good. kinda like when people use multiple subaccounts to like a post 'cause it's just that awesome.

Wouldn't something like "Yay!" or "Congrats!" or something be a good one for that sentiment?

I'm also kinda wishing that it was "Lol" instead of a deadpan "funny" but I'm thinking that's probably just a me preference lol

I'm not quite sure what Winner means, but it's silly and I love it regardless. My intended use for it will probably be when I can't chose between two other reactions (Especially if Seebs swaps out 'Useful' for 'Interesting', and I want to convey that I found a post that was both Interesting and Informative and thus, a Winner at... being content that I really, really like? I don't know where I was going with that.)

Also, re: productivity threads, I think that's a definite plus to it.

I personally don't see it being a 'This Post Was Chosen Over Yours', but certainly, if there are people who have those sorts of brainbugs can weigh in on their perception of the button, that'd be good (Like with Hugs).

Why not just have that as an "awesome" button?

Actually ye I endorse an "Awesome" button or the like

As someone who has spent too much time with IRC, I expect PONG.

ETA: If you were to throw a SYN at me, I'd give you a SYN-ACK. But then I'd expect an ACK from you or rude.

Also, would it be possible for one person to apply multiple ratings? I find myself wanting to both like and agree with posts for example

I'm honestly really attached to winner. I love that it's kinda silly and maybe ambiguous. It matches my brain's idea of optimal communication.

Imo, it doesn't really need to have a clear meaning in general since we won't be using reactions in general. We'll be using them in a bunch of individual contexts, and I think it's working pretty well when interacting with context so far (such as the productivity thing).

I do think it's one of those things that will have a specific usage (or several) as forum culture integrates the new reactions. Which seems to be happening pretty fast.

Yeah, Winner makes me smile like a goof (Winner Winner Chicken Dinner), while Awesome is just... it conveys the level above 'like', but without the whimsy? And I like the whimsy.

It appears not to be, not sure whether that's changeable, but I didn't see a thing.

Current sense of things: I think we have some nigh-consensus that, while Hugs is potentially super useful, it's way too easy for it to be misunderstood or be upsetting, so I think it may be a bad option. I do see some interest in "Awesome", which might or might not replace "Winner". Some interest in "Relateable" and "[Social Noise]". It's possible that we could use an "Interesting", and we might be able to drop one or the other of "Informative" and "Useful".
