Oh, I think you've twigged onto the thing that happens that bothers me the most in fandom sometimes. I think it's because when it's not canon, fans of the ship are going to be looking for actual reasons to ship it. When it is canon, especially if it's a slash/femslash ship, there's this sense of Obligatory Shipping to it, where people feel like they have to make content for it because It's The Canon Gay Ship. And because they're not actually invested in those characters or that dynamic, it ends up being very bland cardboard cutouts doing the dance and dynamic the person actually wants to be writing, which may not even remotely match the characters in question.
I have seen the worstbest typo in existence, probably surpassing 'public/pubic', and it is.... 'gentiles' instead of 'genitals' really set the tone for the rest of the fic
Tfw someone reblogs your threesome fic, where a couple opens up for a third, and tags it... cuckolding? I don't mind or anything, but there are only so many ways to spot three people together simultaneously, it is okay for someone to take a temporary step back. Its just kinda... :? It's not a tag I had ever expected to see on my work unless I was actively trying to write the thing.
@spockandawe Yeah, that doesn't really seem like the right word there. Like, to me that would imply cheating, or at the very least one party not actually wanting to open up the relationship, not all three people being content to try polyamory.
Now that it's been put in my mind, I can see how I might write a SCENE where they act out the thing, like with consent play, etc. But if I was writing the thing for real or just a scene, it would have been a lot MORE cuckolding, not one person chilling on the bed and interacting with the other two, and mostly just exercising self-restraint so he can be sure that things keep going well. I'm just very confused, though I guess I've got some new story ideas (tf folks: cdprowl and/or cdrwprowl cuckolding, worst thing or WORST. THING.)

That, and now that davekat is canon, a huge chunk of new fic is EXCLUSIVELY davekat. These guys were BOTH the primo shipping bicycles, they had such great interaction with most of the cast, but now POOF, nothing but davekat and maybe sometimes they invite john to play because neither johndave nor johnkat will ever truly die.
Spoiler I blame at least half of it on Vriskagram, and on the retcon of everyone's personalities in general :P Hussie wrote himself into a corner, brought Vriska back to erase all the pre-retcon issues everyone needed to work through, and what was left was Rosemary with Rose not being an alcoholic! Davekat playing hopscotch, with a presumably bunch of off screen development and arguments! No more problems, we get our happy ending with next to no effort, woo hoo. And I LIKE BOTH THESE SHIPS! I'm happy they're canon! But my dissatisfaction with the ending in general means that I can't enjoy bland happy fic about these pairings unless they're damn good Seriously. I looked back through Vriskagram the other day for an image, and seeing Vriska just insert herself into everything and interrupt everyone's lives filled me with such annoyance. Gah
Does it count as a fanfic gripe if I have a plotbunny that's really, really close to hitting a squick that gives me the screaming jibblies?
Tfw you get into a new fandom and its collective tastes do not match up to yours at all. There are 20 fics in the Link/Zelda/Ganondorf tag, maybe 5 of which are readable and 3 of which are by the only really good author who has ever written for that ship, as far as I can tell. Apparently the entire fandom wants Link to fuck the fish man. Which I wouldn't even be mad about BUT I can't find any good fics for that either!!!
Homestuck has forever ruined both my kink and xeno expectations for new fandoms. A+ authors brought the hard game back in the day and we were always pushing boundaries and asking, "Okay, but what-if," just for the sake of what-if a good chunk of the time.
