Things that are currently annoying you

Male housemate frequently thinks a pot with a lid on it is "boiling over" when it isn't. Small amount of noise produced by steam escaping =\= boiling over. It's not a big deal but feeling like people think I'm negligent when in reality they are overprotective gets to me.

Got called to participate in a research study. Caller did not specify ANYTHING about said study, not even the subject. I'm assuming it might be related to my Fun New Disease but literally have no idea.

 

I slept through dinner which wouldn't normally be a problem, except I need to have fasting bloodwork done tomorrow and I can't decide whether I should eat now and do bloodwork later or just wait till after bloodwork. And of course the longer I dither the later I have to put off bloodwork anyway.

Saw someone complaining (or at least it looked like complaining?) that Erika Moen's comic Oh Joy Sex Toy frequently talks about kinks at length, with the implication that it's super awkward to talk about Weird Kinks so openly.

And I just. *covers face with hand, deep sigh* The comic about sexual enjoyment talks too much about how people enjoy sex. I fucking can't.

 

I thought people were complaining about the underlying racism problem with their newest comic.

 

considering that people have bitched anytime a comic discussing a kink came out regardless of the kink, i'm p sure it's just EEEWWW HOW DARE YOU BE INTO SOMETHING I'M NOT

 

At the time of my post, that was the only complaint I'd seen (hadn't gone looking, it came across my dash) and it didn't mention anything about the issue of race wrt the most recent comic. It may have been obliquely referring to it, I dunno, but it seemed like it was meant to stand on its own (e.g. "How dare she acknowledge kinks").

I've since seen a bit more explanation (again, not looking for it, it came across my dash) and if I cared to look into it more, I think I could probably be convinced aspects of it were tone deaf/in poor taste. But given how nasty people can get about her work, I don't care to upset myself that way just to find out if something could have been handled better.

There's a tendency for people who have absolute power over others to torture/murder them in horrible ways as an incentive for the rest of the group to behave. Pretty much every dominating ethnic group has done this, some more recently then others. Torture/graphic murder as social control was very widespread up until..I'm gonna say the 1800s? Possibly a bit earlier. Conquered groups tend to get treated like dogshit, especially if there is some sort of forced labor involved (which was the case the british colonies). An example of non-whites torturing and terrorizing an enslaved group were the Japanese in regards to Korean "comfort women" who were captured/drafted and forced into prostitution by the army during world war 2. If anyone wants to have their day ruined by a graphic account of the horrors of world war 2, read this translated comic . Koreans had long been regarded as subhuman by the japanese so it was easier to treat them horrifically. War makes everything a million times worse than it would normally be, ESPECIALLY once the side with the enslaved group starts losing.

What to take away is that all of humanity is capable of great atrocities. White people have had more opportunity because they were the ones controlling most of the world for a few hundred years. Any group in power is going to need societal safeguards to prevent them from going back to old reliable methods of fear and cohersion that humantiy has been relying on for thousands of years.

One of my friends is running one of those lularoe things and there are too many steps for this glorified auction via facebook, requiring registration with some site i'm not going to bother with.

 

My #$&@ing headlights aren't working!!! I found this out while being 20 minutes by highway away from home in the middle of a thunderstorm. (I was That Asshole tonight driving with high beams on, sorry everyone else.) I am taking my car into the shop tomorrow as soon as it opens* and hoping for the best. I am kind of boned right now, though, because I have an event tomorrow after dark and work Saturday morning before light and NO IDEA HOW LONG ITS GOING TO TAKE OR HOW MUCH ITS GOING TO COST TO FIX THIS. DX

*High beams work, low beams don't, internet says this could be a dimmer switch, and while I am not auto incompetent, this sounds like something that would take me more time + energy to figure out than I actually have. So, to the mechanic.

Why is my dad like this

 

Honestly why is any of my family like this. My dad is former addict and a cancer survivor with no will to live, he spends his entire life either at work, abusing us or sitting on his ass in his chair. My sister is the spoiled baby of the family and has OCD, and she's as abusive as dad is. Mom is stressed to the max and, whether she intends to or not, causes me to feel like my problems are invalid because either she thinks they're not real or they make her upset. My brother isn't abusive, but he has dads temper and hates our family as much as I do, which causes more conflict when he's not away at college. I want out. I can't afford out, I make 14 bucks an hour and don't even work full time.

 

@applechime i have the opposite problem - i started a tumblr to collect ropework pics that interested me, and tumblr keeps peppering my dash with posts animals and lego batman

i mean, i am not into tiny men being squished like bugs, but at least it would be less dissonant than suddenly encountering a painting of someone's cat
