Here's one for the gripes thread! People taking bad media depictions of things like drugs and alcohol and assuming that they're a) 100% realistic and b) 100% reliable. Bad sex might throw me out of the mood, but bad depictions of alcohol will throw me out of the story entirely. And that goes both ways, but definitely gets to me when a character who's supposed to be a heavy drinker at over 200 lbs keeps getting fucking wasted on like two beers. At that point, it's a medical issue. Someone please tell this man that he needs to see a doctor.
yeah i'm pretty sure that if someone in the Voltron fandom came up with something on par with the Tavros Fuck Fountain then they would not get the same reaction of 'hahaha GROSS nice job' that came from...well, presumably not _everywhere_ but from most of the people I saw reacting to it.
The Transformers fandom really disappointed me on this score. I was all hype to find some wireplay or weird psychic melding porn, and then I get to the ao3 tag and it's nothing but "how similar can we make this to a real human penis and vagina by completely disregarding any opportunities for actual xenobiological worldbuilding"

I mean it should have absolutely no purpose besides 'feels fun and good' so their junk should get WEIRD. There's no need for robogenitals to be even slightly useful for anything besides sex.
Some fics get so close, too! They'll start talking about combiners or the history of conjunx endura or psychic bonding and I'll get all excited but then NOPE, suddenly it's knotting time, and then you gotta gestate this miniature person like some kind of mammal!
Ooh, are we complaining about bad portrayals of good ships? Because holy shit, 90% of SolAra fanfiction is just...ugh. So much cheap angst, not enough actual interaction and character stuff (especially where poor Aradia is concerned). Like, I get that it's a great ship for angst--that's what initially drew me to it--but please, give me fic about them being cute together, or having fun, or going on adventures! They have such great interactions in canon and there is so little fic that even ATTEMPTS to capture that. tl;dr i came for the angst and stayed because their interactions are fucking perfect and i would like the interactions part pls

Yeah! There's so much more and almost none of it even tries to explain itself. I could get into it if it drew links to canon and talked about why the old reproductive system is being thrown over, but it's always handwaved as some ancient ability of the Primes or something. ...I wish more fics did egg-laying instead of mpreg. It would make more sense as an alternate reproductive method imo.

I enjoy the unlikely humanoid robot pr0nz just fine because even if it doesn't make sense it's porn. But I want so much more.
