"Can we go back to the fireworks display?" Ford inquires lazily. "There's never been a member of my family born in any timeline who doesn't enjoy blowing things up. Watching explosions while stoned almost makes up for the stench of the hell beast."

He chuckles briefly. "Actually I've been to several hells. They all smelled better than that."

 

"Just don't blow anything up you'll miss," Jame says. "That's the problem with being Destruction."

 

[She snorts and immediately stops blowing shit up. Nope.]

 

"He's not Destruction," Lissa says cheerfully. "He'd be happier with his lot if he were." She sighs. "He just wanted to make things."

 

Ford groans. "Yeah. Did not count on them buying up all my goddamn patents and locking them up to make the oil companies happy. Did not want to make weapons. Not ever." He grumbles into Lissa's hair. "Wish I could tell other me that West Coast Tech was not the wet dream he thought it was going to be. Fuck the military-industrial complex sideways with their own goddamn bombers."

"This is why I give you tsanyara, not booze," Lissa says with a sigh. "You're a morose, unfunny drunk." She kisses Ford's cheek and starts ruffling his hair till it floofs. "You're stoned, not drunk. Act like it!"

 

Ford grins and looks up at him. "Hot," he says, with a shrug. "Goddammit." He doesn't intend to do a blessed thing about it, but Ford speaks the truth nearly all of the time. It gets him in no end of trouble.

"That's my husband," Lissa says gleefully. She glances at Jame. "Hey, why are our other-selves so damn repressed, anyway?"
