I've played some of P4 and read an LP of P3. Haven't touched P5 yet. What I have done, however, is play on Persona MUSH, back when it was around. (...I think it's no longer around, anyways? It sorta went downhill after a couple of key players left, and it became much less fun and way less interesting.) I'm up for answering questions about that, if anyone's curious, although I wouldn't really recommend trying to find the place. (Unless @Banjooie contradicts me there, anyways; he'd know better than I would if it's still somewhere decent to go RP.)
(@goldenflowertea i hope you know this is your fault m8 :P ) So, after my boyfriend horrified me with pictures of cock chariots, he decided (and I agreed) that I really had to play some of this series. It was recommended I start with P3, but P4G is £3.99 on the PS store over Easter, and that is incredible for a game with 30+ hours play time, so I got that one and started it yesterday. I am now at the beginning of June, I have yet to rescue Kanji, and I think I'm going to have to adjust my usual stat grinding-before-storyline playstyle, because it is interfering with my time management. But it's fun so far. Internet osmosis ruined me on the plot before I even considered playing the game, though Spoiler I'm watching you, Adachi.

Spoiler: P5 spoilers 2: nuclear boogaloo I'm loving Makoto being the Priestess and also being a pretty hard hitting brawler. Nice juxtaposition, would use in party again. Hate her nickname though. I predicted it would be Prez and then I was so excited when I thought it was an option! Then my dreams were crushed. Oh well. Morgana... continues to annoy. Sigh. I really want to like you because your real-world model is so cute and you're a cat but I'm so frustrated all the time. The Morgana "Hey, hey!" voice clip is my favorite from the whole game so far, though, so I guess I'm going to hold out hope that you fuckin' chill and stop being quite so... aggravating. Stilllllll very frustrated with the "Here's the next target!" stuff revealing the target before everything. That's my biggest complaint about the game so far, this recall setup. Guhhhh. WTF is uppppp with the Kawakami social link (I guess they're not social links but whatever, that's the terminology I know). JFC. She does laundry for us. WTF. Just found out that Miss Headphones is eavesdropping on us. Wondering what is gonna go down....
Surprisingly (considering that the series is from Japan), there's not nearly as much grinding necessary as you'd expect. And the game assumes that you're going to be doing at least two playthroughs anyways; I think you can't even get the true ending without completely maxed stats, which is...just plain not possible on a single playthrough. (Fortunately, your stat gains do persist in the New Game+.)
Nah, I got the true ending in normal mode without any particular difficulty. And maxed my social stats, but that wasn't necessary. You don't have to max all the social links to get the true ending, just pick the right dialogue options during plot events in December and then keep poking around when the game is leaning on you REALLY HARD to stop poking around.
No, but the SMT wiki did, and it's brilliant. I've maxed the stats! Is it necessary to max out the Jester social link, at least, for the true ending, because I've really missed the boat on that one (leaving rescues to the last minute, and wondering why Adachi won't talk to me while there's an investigation ongoing). I think a NG+ is going to be necessary for me, because I am in late September and Aeon is the only social link I am anywhere near lvl 10 for. I need to make a fresh start now that I know more or less what I'm doing.
Did you notice that he's Tower Arcana? And often gets the most powerful Pierce-element skills in the game? And the components for his special fusion in Persona 3? And the fact that in P3 you can fuse him into a weapon called "Evil Hands"? :::'))) Ah, I'm not sure how it's different in Golden. I played the original version. But I know Golden does give you longer to max social links than the original does. Still, you can get an ending in November if you want to get to a NG+ as soon as possible.
I just finished my first playthrough of P5! Spoiler: Rambling thoughts I wanted to romance Mishima :c and I got really annoyed that all my dialogue options towards him implied that I didn't like him. He's a good boy!! I also would have romanced Ryuji given the option. I ended up going for Makoto, who is a sweetheart. I'm thinking Haru for my NG+ run. Her character design reminds me of my actual girlfriend lmao. But, her VA is so annoying... I, uh, really didn't like Morgana. At all. I also hated Yusuke at first, but he grew on me. Morgana just grated from beginning to end. I didn't like Teddie either... I knew something was up with the twins, but I was expecting them to be Elizabeth somehow since the butterfly's VA sounded like her. Also!!!! I TOTALLY FUCKING CALLED IGOR BEING FAKE. His voice was all wrong! I also picked up on the pancake thing as soon as it happened, but I was really sad that Akechi didn't get a chance for redemption. Let me redeem all the people, game. I thought he was written really well, too -- my opinion of him changed constantly throughout the game. You guys. No hot springs scene. Well, no hot springs scene where we try to peep at the girls. This series has come so far... (Poor Ann and the nude portrait debacle notwithstanding.) Futaba is beautiful and autistic and I love her. The mouse puzzles from the (second-to-? Does Mementos count?) last dungeon can go to hell. I was super weirded out that the game was totally going to let me date my teacher. Please stop that. But, the teacher SL is super OP and I love it. Actually, social link rewards in this game are super good in general. I wasn't a super fan of the framing device, but I like that they're experimenting. Goddamn, the stat locks for some social links are waaaaaay too high. And why do Hierophant and Star keep giving their respective stat boosts when those stats have to be maxed to finish their links?? I thiiiink that about covers it. All in all it was fucking fantastic. The music! The graphics! The character animations! (At one point Protag randomly leaned on something during a conversation and I had to put the controller down for a second because it felt like I was watching actors rather than 3D models.) Sooooooooooo good. I can't wait to play it through again.

I couldn't remember the whole details but I knew they were good and anyway a dick on wheels stands on its own merits. I did show her a video of the Mara quest line from SMTIV Apocalypse though. STOP MAKING ME WANT TO PICK UP PERSONA 3 AGAIN, I HAVE APOCALYPSE ON THE GO STILL WHY AM I SO BAD AT STICKING TO ONE GAME AT A TIME
(And then in Strange Journey, Mara is described as a "beautiful goddess," to the intense "..."-ment of Chaos!protag on actually meeting her. And yes, she still does the dialogue laden with innuendos. It's vaguely implied she might have been a candidate to be one of the Mothers of the Schwartzwelt, which is sure an image.)
Spoiler: Persona 5 rambling, not really spoilers but just in case I have Persona 5 and so far this is my fucking jam in terms of aesthetic, theme, tone, and form. Jesus fuck. Like I liked 3 and 4 a lot and I suspect I'd love 2 if I got around to playing it. But neither of those games started nearly as hard out the gate as 5 did and they didn't quite grab me as hard. Like I adore 4 and I really like the shadow acceptance parts of that game, but at the same time there was always something missing from it for me. A sort of visceralness, perhaps. Especially given how I tend to prefer toying with the concept in my AUs for other shit. Persona 4 never went quite as far as I would have liked it to. Viscerality appears to be the name of Persona 5's game, though. Perhaps it's not balls to the wall holy shit what with confronting their shadow selves, but really do I need that when we're realizing how fucking done we are with reality and tearing our faces off so we can rage against reality? Only just now recruited my third person so I'm still very early on. Haven't beaten the first real boss yet.

AGH. Has anyone else had this bug where you tell a character to do a thing and their Persona appears but it doesn't do anything and the game freezes?
