some of the monsters try to fight both frisk and toriel most of the ones that even realize they're using magic at all are trying to use it to talk and don't realize they're hurting frisk, who in turn doesn't realize that "please stop that hurts" would make them stop it is a mess
there's also things like undyne deciding that toriel is mind-controlled by frisk resulting in a fight involving lots of fire frisk, instead of pouring water on undyne, physically drags her to the nearest water to toriel's confusion
I think Alphys might flat-out not try that plan at all? Like, the reason she wanted to do that in the first place was because she knew Frisk would have to kill Asgore and take his soul in order to leave, assuming he didn't kill them, and she didn't want either of them to die. The whole thing got tangled up in her own flaws and insecurities, but her original intent in trying to trick Frisk into respecting her wasn't only for her desire for admiration, it was (as Mettaton says) so she could convince them not to leave. Add in Toriel to the mix, someone Alphys canonically recognizes as a boss monster when first meeting her (I'm assuming, since her reaction to seeing Toriel and Asgore at the same time is 'OH MY GOD THERE'S TWO OF THEM'), and I think if she involved herself at all she'd probably try a very different plan. Given the amount of knowledge about the Royal Family she seems to have access to, I could buy Alphys recognizing Toriel as the missing Queen. Considering her fondness for Asgore and her romantic tendencies, it wouldn't surprise me if she wound up trying for some well-meaning but misguided plan to get the two of them back together again. ("They'll be so happy together, and Asgore can adopt the human with her so they can spend their life down here being happy, and everyone will be happy with me and shower me with gratitude for putting this all together... right? That's how it works in the stories...") Would probably still involve her guiding them through Hotland- after all, it's been a long time since Toriel saw the rest of the Underground, odds are she doesn't know the way as well as someone who's been living there for a while would. I could see her still getting Mettaton involved, since he's also pretty into dramatic stuff like this and would probably jump at the chance, although it might be in a different role. After all, having him attack the freakin' Queen of the Underground might be treason or something, and I don't think she'd want to risk it. Maybe he'd be doing a more... gossipy form of harassment? Using his news channel to report on everything they're doing via Alphys' cameras, spilling their location to the rest of the Underground, and spinning the story in the 'right' direction- that is, painting Alphys as brilliant and helpful, trying to push the idea of the King and Queen getting back together, etc.
I like the idea of Toriel and Frisk still getting into one or more of Mettaton's shows, just knowing that they're not actually in danger...resulting in at least one instance of Frisk and Toriel both independently deciding to react very melodramatically to something. The same something.
actually on the topic of making AUs, I did this thing for a bit where I'd take a song and try to make an AU based on it-I did it a bunch back when I was in the BH6 fandom, and twice for Undertale. Give me a song that's SFW and not extremely sad, maybe? I'll try to make an AU based on it.
Ive been really enjoying fansongs for characters in aus recently, heres a couple of my faves Underfell mettaton Error sans. There was a better one thematically (it was more glitchy) but it was harder to enjoy as a song Ive also been enjoying a lot of dancetale videos, havent gotten super into the plot yet but theres this one animation someone did based on the elastic heart music video that I really love because it makes me imagine that a dancetale "fight" involves a lot of intent on the dancer's part. Like for example when sans gets thrown at the bars of the cage you dont see them til he hits because theyre made from intent. Its actuslly probably because its a wip but its still cool to think about.

I can barely tell what the lyrics are, and what I do get doesn't inspire me much, but have a Chasriel AU! (I do not usually go for Chasriel.) In the AU, monsters were never sealed underground. Rather, they were mostly exiled to an area around Mt Ebott, with the ones staying behind generally living in slums. Centuries later, the human nobility has become very corrupt. The monster nobility is also corrupt, but less so because it just hasn't had time to become that corrupt. Chara, a human noble, falls for Asriel, the monster prince, and marries him, joining the two nobilities in a way never before seen. It is seen as an entirely political act-very few people suspect that Chara even likes Asriel and visa-versa. After all, they're nobles. Both of them slowly become aware that most of the nobles consider it a terrible match-it's not keeping money in the family, after all-and, more importantly, that a lot of the corruption on each side is different sorts of corruption. Each is somewhat horrified at the sort of corruption the other family has. Meanwhile, artisans start writing poetry or painting portraits or making small sculptures of Chara and Asriel, the Unitors, and they start to realize that every problem the unification will have and cause will be blamed on them.

I know it's pandering silly nonsense, but goddamn do I love cat Sans though I do think it's missing something by having Sans be someone's pet rather than just 'almost everything is exactly the same, just Sans is a cat and no one acts like it's off in any way'. he has a little jacket and everything "Of course this is my brother, silly human!" Papyrus says, Sans draped over his shoulder, somehow managing to not to fall despite being asleep. "Don't you see the resemblance between us?"
